Avon Cobra Chrome Radial Tires for GL1800
ITEM CODE: PG23038

02.24.2009
I purchased the Avon Cobra tires (700 series for rear) back on November 12 and I wanted to put some miles on both tires before writing a review. As a rule, new tires always feel great, but the true test is the "run in" to see how the tires perform in all weather and road conditions over time. The very first thing I noticed with the Cobra's was the lack of vibration you feel in the handlebars and the shake noticed in the side mirrors... ALL GONE! Now with 6,400 miles on the Cobra's, my 1800 still rides smoother then any tire I've used previously. I've done the Dunlop, Bridgestone and Metzeler tires and none of them ride nearly as smooth as the Avon's. At 6,400 miles, I still haven't developed the "hum" while leaning that I've experienced with the other brands I've mentioned, time (and miles) will tell. I ride my Goldwing hard in the twisties and I'm confident with the grip. The Bridgestone tires have a slight edge for wet riding conditions and hot tar strips only because Bridgestone's have a softer compound, but they wear out to quickly for my taste.

As stated previously, time and miles will be the true test, so far they deserve the 5 star rating for a smooth ride and no humming, which competes with my music. I still have a lot of tread to go.

Performance Stainless Belly Pan
ITEM CODE: WS187416,   SKU: WS187416

If you do not have one of these belly pans your missing out on a great ride. The bike performs better in the wind then ever before. Not as much side wind throwing me around on the road now. Smother run with less wind. a better way to discribe it is the bike cuts threw the wind like butter. Installed it in 15 minutes.
Every Goldwing should have this belly pan. Vents will help in the summer heat in Texas. Oh almost forgot it will keep debri off the underside of my bike.

The screws are too short. It comes with 30mm length screws, I had to purchase 40mm and grind down some length. Nice piece once it was done, very sturdy, good finish, and bright light.

Kuryakyn Heel Toe Shifter Kit for GL1800
ITEM CODE: KU4039,   SKU: KU4039

Easy install, the chrome was flawless. I kept pegs and didn't switch to floorboards. It does interfere with getting your foot on the kick stand. But more importantly to me, the shifter pegs are so high I really feel like I have to lift my foot up uncomfortably high to shift. Much higher than I did on my old VTX retro that had floor boards and a H/T shifter. I will leave it on for a while to see if I get used to it, but not sure I will be keeping it on though.

Wig Wag Brake Modulator
ITEM CODE: PU20500031,   SKU: PU20500031

I installed about three weeks ago and it was an adventure to say the least. I had a standard back off unit on my 2003 VTX and had no trouble installing on that bike, but increase the number of taillights to four and the wiring gets considerably more difficult. It took me a while to find wires that led to two opposite lights so I ended up going with the first two which happened to be the two bottom lights (Don't ask me which wires I couldn't begin to explain which ones they were). I am glad to see the note below from the Back Off folks about getting better installation instructions and a web site to help. I sure could have used it. I works well installed and is a must have for safety as far as I am concerned, but be prepared for a tough install if you aren't a mechanic, engineer, or electrician.

ITEM: PG00127

They match colors perfectly with the rest of the Kury parts. Installation was a 15 minute total event. I have one MAJOR gripe however. They attach to the back of the mirror and fit between the edge of the mirror and the housing. The design is such that I cannot push the mirrors out all the way anymore, as the lights rub and jam against the housing. This makes about 1/3 of my mirror unusable, but I do get a great view of the front of my knuckles and arms up to the shoulders. Second problem is that when the mirrors are even in this position, the trailing edge of the lights are even with the end of the mirror housing. This means that light only escapes through a very small gap between the mirror and the housing, effectively minimizing their intended function, which is to serve as a warning to motorists in your blind spot beside you that you are changing lanes, further exacerbated by the fact that you now have a larger blind spot due to the inability to move your mirrors out all the way. For the money, they are much cheaper than the mirror replacement that has the LEDs in it, but perhaps if you HAVE the money, you should consider the full mirror replacement. Still bright at night and is far better than nothing and when used in conjunction with other blinking LEDs like the Stealth II light, fork tower LEDs, LED reflector conversion, and arrow head LEDs, it further attracts attention which is the point I guess.

They are georgeous. Installation was pretty easy with minimal disassembly of the side panels. Retrieving the turn signal connector from the small gap between the mirror and the fairing was daunting, but possible with a pair of needle-nose pliers. The adapters are absolutely necessary for my '08 wing and should have been included as an option, but I digress. The thing I like most is that the running voltage is enough such that there is almost no noticeable difference in brightness between it's operation as a running light and as a turn signal. Good thing it goes from full off to full on when blinking or no one would notice, but it looks nice running and is a perfect color match for my Ring of Fire LEDs (I was told that other brands, namely Show Chrome use much duller and more yellowish LEDs and are not a match, so get all Kury if you want everything to match). My only complaint is that they should have sheathed the wires with a black shrink tube close to the lighted end. As it stands now, you can see a 1/4" length of red/black/white wire bundle coming from the light up into the fairing, hence the loss of 1/2 star rating. If I had noticed it earlier, I would have put some black shrink tube on it myself, and fully recommend that you do this if you want it to be less noticable. All in all, worth the install, great visibility and it's in a great spot on the bike.

Adapter for LED Mirror, Front Reflector, Stealth Lights
ITEM CODE: KU7300,   SKU: KU7300

Rediculous that Kury doesn't include these as a requested option to their parts that require this. The new style connectors came on '06 wings... come on Kury, you've had almost 3 years now. Time to upgrade, or offer these as a selection for people with newer wings.

Ranting aside, they fit properly and save me from having to otherwise solder in a very tough spot, namely behind the mirrors.

Deluxe Grey Half Cover for Goldwing
ITEM CODE: WSHALFGR,   SKU: WSHALFGR

After having this cover for about six months I am revising my rating of this item. It is a great cover for the price. It is a good dust cover and bird dropping cover. BUT, they need to drop the "water resistant" claim. Living here in Florida and getting a lot of rain it gets pretty obvious that the rain water goes right thru this cover.
