Resetting the GOLD STANDARD
At first I was a little intimidated by the facts on the process for this upgrade , but the truth is it was a blast I had the time of my life doing this my self. You will need a 45mill. Fork slide hammer and new seals and bushing kit with new fork oil. And enough room to lay out your project. Don't forget to watch the how to video a few times , and take pictures of the seals on right and left sides , they are different .. make notes ! |

Excellent Addition for the Goldwing
Sooner or later, the time comes to all Goldwings when the front fork seals begin to leak. At about 70k, my left seals began to fail. Very inexpensive parts but the labor charges for replacing them is hundreds of dollars. So I figured with all of the fantastic reviews of the monotube progressive forks and since I was paying some big bucks to replace the fork seals why not improve the suspension at the same time since they're already there. Simply slip in the new tubes in place of the stock Honda ones. Well, the reviews here are correct. It's only about 3 miles to my home from the garage I have my bike serviced at and in that short ride I noticed a world of difference in the handling characteristics of the bike. Handling was much more crisp and tight -- more race tuned that loose, mushy steering. At first the feeling was very strange to my touch but as I got used to it a big smile came over me. Even did a little stopover at a park on the way home and used the parking lot for some slow speed maneuvers. Have since gone on a 100+ mile run two up and I can't recommend enough these tubes as a replacement to the factory standard ones, especially if you're replacing the fork seals. Handling is tight, bumps in the road are dampened and gone is the infamous 40 mph Goldwing wobble. As a further note, I also replaced the steering head bears with the All Balls bearing and the combo of the two made my bike feel and ride a whole lot better. |

Progressive Monotube Update- 1 year later
Its been just over a year and now I have 8,084 miles on these. I put these in a 2010 GL1800 Base model. Everything is still the same as my last update. No front end sagging, no front tire cupping, no seals leaking, and no complaints. I have one shim installed and used Honda S8 oil, 10w. This is definitely a excellent upgrade for the budget minded rider. It probably will not match up to the $1000+ other upgrade, but I think comes close to it. I highly recommend these Progressive mono tubes if you are replacing springs and seals when they are worn out. 5 stars for this product. |

What a difference
I put these on my 2008, and i was blown away by the difference they made. I also put in new all balls bearings. My bike handles better than it did when i got it. If you want to improve your ride, I suggest mono tubes and all balls. well worth it!! |

Monotube fork kit
Installed on 2005 goldwing with 31k miles. Also installed all-balls kit, fork rebuild kit, kury fork brace and avon cobras.Went with 70 series rear tire and will not go back!I have the rear spring, but after about 3500 miles and reading how the rear is too stiff riding single,I have not installed it yet. These parts have transformed my bike into a canyon carving animal with two-up riding remarkably improved...I fell for the instructions and installed one shim, way too stiff, pulled it back apart and removed the shim(the right side you can do in the triple tree, but the left one has to come back out.)I weigh 185 and am 5'9" 32"inseam...I raised the tubes about 3/4 of an inch and it works great for my leg length...It still felt a little too stiff on small bumps, but after a couple of thousand miles has settled down nicely!! Some tips you may find helpful:I ran some bungee cords up to my opened garage door to hold the handlebars out of the way! HUGE DIFFERENCE and they wont scratch anything...I was able to get the bearing races out for the all-balls conversion easily.Hindsight, order the special spanner socket for the top castle nut and use a torque wrench or your going back in because it will be too loose! If you get it too tight the bike will want to stay layed over in the turns.Make sure it has enough drag with it in the air so that it stays where you put it when moved.I played with this setting the most after install and tuned it nicely...the biggest problem I had was getting the bottom fork capscrews loose,Had to use heat on both sides, the left was really tight.I had to go find a hardened allen with 3/8 socket drive and used an impact to loosen it.The left side wants to spin on reinstall so the impact was invaluable there as well.I live on a winding mountain road and at first could no way stay even remotely close to the speed limit!! Elevated sweeping overpasses with raised expansion joints are not an issue anymore as with passing trucks..I run the tires pretty tight 43-44psi in front and 55-62 in that big rear.I have NO sign of cupping front or rear!! If your on the fence about this kit,Just do it as nothing done here is irreversible.Once installed you will wonder why Honda did not do it this way! |

Progressive Mono Tubes Update
I installed these on 4/4/2013. I now have approx 4000 miles on the tubes, new fluid and seals. The ride is EXCELLENT. It handles like it was new again and it sits just like I bought in 2009 when I use the side stand. I put the fork tubes in the original place in the triple tree and i used one shim per the instructions. I weigh 153# bare a.. naked and with all my gear on and all the crap i take work, the combined weight is approx 180# (+/- say 5#). I am 5' 6" with an inseam of 29". Yes I tippy toe at stop lights and stop signs. The ride is a bit rough but i attribute this to my o.c.d. of me setting higher tire pressures than recommended. It handles far better than when the bike was new with the oem springs but then I was coming off of a 1990 Honda Pacific Coast 800 that had an upgrade of just the Progressive springs that I rode for 13 years. It handles so good now, I can scrape my engine and saddle bag guards and center stand on turns. I did this with the oem springs to but the lean angle is far more now than before. Big or small bumps and rough roads are so much smoother now to. Railroad tracks are smoother along with cattle crossings. Freeway ride has really improved by being silky smooth, it doesn't matter if the road surface is rough either. The new tubes just soak it up. I highly recommend this as a alternative to the $1500+ upgrade, which I can't remember the name right now. |

Transformation!
Installed these on my 2010 Wing with 25,000 miles on it.If you ride your bike on mountain roads these are a must. Superior damping, increased ground clearance, and enhanced stability make my Goldwing feel like it just lost 300 lbs. Came back from a 250 mile test ride with a huge grin on my face. Definitely worth the price and easy to install. I also installed new fork seal kit from Wingstuff while I was at it. Best 400 dollars you can spend on your bike. |

monotube review
I recently installed the Progressive Suspension Monotube kit on a Honda 2002 GL1800 Wing, pretty straight foward install if you have rebuild the GL1800 forks before. One thing I ran into was on the re-assemble of the left fork , the damper rod allen retainer bolt does not want to tighten as normal, with the stock damper rod you can hold the rod with a tapered shaft inside the damper rod from the top,or use fork spring pressure to press against the damper rod to hold the damper rod in place. Because the Progressive assembly has no access to the damper rod from the top the damper rod trys to spin while torqueing the bolt to the proper spec, something I am going to look in to. After the install I went for a test drive, what I felt over the stock ride was more travel than before with more control, but a bit harsh, I used the recommended 1 pre-load shim. I am going to put at least 1000 miles on the set up before I fully judge the ride. I have been installing Progressive suspension products for over 25 years and most springs and dampeners some time to settle in. If the ride does not soften some then I might remove the pre-load shims for a softer ride, it's nice that is an option. |

Great Upgrade
Finally took the time to install these new tubes (setting in the garage for two months). This upgrade is a must for this bike. The route to work and back (round trip 88 miles) each day provides pleanty of obsticles for these tubes to be evaluated. The overall feel and response is great. The railroad tracks are just a little bump in the road, rough patches short or long do not move the bike off your chosen line, I can now use the front brake the way I prefer, and on the open road the front tracks as though the wheel is not even there. Very smooth. I am looking forward to the mountain ride soon. 2006 GL1800 Installed per instructions with one shim. Use the G702 Bridgestone rear, no need to raise the fork tubes for better turn in. Does make the bike taller for more ground clearence. If I purchased a new wing today this upgrade would be part of the package before I ever left the dealer. Ride safe and enjoy the freedom. Smooth ride
Installed the Progressive rear spring and the Progressive front fork springs 600 miles ago and it was a wonderful improvement over stock. Wanted to try the Monotube Cartridges so now I can confirm that when both parts are new the Monotubes are definitely smoother. Alot of talk about the Cartridges raising the bike from the Progressive springs, but those must of been older springs that sagged some. My bike did raise in the front when I did the fork springs, but it is the identical height now with the Monotubes. The bike does lean over a bit more on the kickstand and it is okay, but I have a 1/2" plate that I am going to cut and weld onto the bottom of another kickstand I purchased from a trike take-off on ebay. I am 6'0" tall with a 34" inseam and weigh 230 pounds and I ran no spacers in the cartridges. Very happy with how smooth the front end is. In my opinion the bike now handles and rides perfect with my wife on giving us about a 375 pound load. I would prefer the back shock to be slightly softer when I ride solo, but it is way better than the way too soft stock rear spring. |

New Bike!
I bought my '06 1800 with 40K mi on it and was never very happy with the handling . Only thing I had to compare with was CX500 25 years ago, so I thought "just big bike". Put these on a couple weeks ago and have put 500mi on now, and WOW!! Now in fairness, it appears that the previous owner had never changed fork oil or seals, so it would have been interesting to see how much difference just that made, BUT, putting the progressives + All Balls in has made this a completely new bike! An extra 10MPH in curves that feels more confident than the old 10MPH slower, + better general bump handling, slow handling, and confidence in the bike. I had a dealer put them in, so no comment on ease of install, but VERY happy with the result! |

Monotubes
I installed the monotubes with 7700 miles on the clock. The front end is a little higher using the recommended shims and also stiffer. The additional height did not create a problem for me and the firmer forks planted the front end in the twisties. I also disabled the ADV and with the firmness the ADV, in my opinion, is not needed. Installation is easier than expected, can be done by a novice. The fork seal rebuild kit is a must when installing monotubes. |
