After replacing his suspension at Traxxion Dynamics in Woodstock, Georgia, Rick tests the upgrade out by riding up to the world famous Tail of the Dragon at Deal's Gap. He's never been to Tail of the Dragon, but always wanted to.
Before hitting Tail of the Dragon, Rick explores the surrounding roads, including Moonshiner Highway 28, and discovers a pleasant surprise!
Join WingStuff owner, Rick Arnoldo, as he rides some of the best roads that our country has to offer in our series, Rick's Rides. Some renowned and others a bit more obscure, they will be roads that remove you from the hectic pace of city life and move you on an adventure! In each episode, Rick will reflect on the ride and give the viewer an up close look at what the road has to offer.
Great video Rick. That really brings back memories. I used to live in Georgia, So I have ridden the many great roads in that area! Hopefully I’ll be getting up that way in September after Wing Ding in Knoxville Tennessee.
I have made this run at least 4 times and it seems that each time is better than the last. Here is a little recommendation to consider, try to make the run of the Tail of the Dragon during the week if possible and not the weekend. The reason being that on the weekend there are the crotch rocket riders that are trying to out perform the other in the time it takes to get from the start to the finish. This is fine if that what they like to do but it ruins the run for others that are just trying to enjoy the adventure and scenery of the run at their own pace. But again that why there is the Tree Of Shame and it appears that someone is donating to the cause on regular bases. 😜
I too have ridden the dragon and all the NGA and Western Carolina roads. Plus I had the full month Traxxion accompnyments. The dragon is pretty tight for a Goldwing IMO. Plus the squids do dampen the fun. The best road by far for me is HWY 60 from Dahlonega north to MacCaysville. Tight turns but not constantly. Has some nice seeepers and best of all it’s 40 plus miles. Give that a shot. The Dragon is overrated.
Rick, I've the privilege of riding there every Mother's Day weekend for our annual Lucky Dog Rumble in the Mountains. It's truly some of the best motorcycling in the world. Next time, hit more of the outlying rides as where they may not be as technical as the Tail, they are more scenic and fun.
Agreed...great riding the Tail of the Dragon. Add Mt Evans and Rocky Mt Nattional park in Colorado along with the Bear Tooth pass near Yellowstone to your bucket list.
Nicely done Rick! Thanks for sharing it. I love the aerial views. Did you use a drone? I rode the Dragon on my 2008 Wing and thanked my full Traxxion installation and Centramatic Wheel Balancers the whole way!
