Utopia Driver Backrest for GL1800 2001-2017
ITEM CODE: UT18MC12,   SKU: UT18MC12

Jim
Put mine on yesterday. Like others that have installed it, the hardest part was actually cutting the seat. I enjoyed my ride to work. Highly recommend this backrest if you are looking to add one to your bike. Oh and there is plenty of room for your passenger.

Installed this today on my 2012 Wing, as stated by other reviewers the fit between the front & back piece leaves a little to be desired. That being said,I think a loose fit may increase airflow. Considering the fact that I don't wrench, I was shocked to see how exposed crucial parts were to possible road damage. Glad they're protected now & it only took me about 15 minutes. Plus, I felt good about this addition being more about the bike..than the bling. I would recomend this product to everyone who has a Wing.

Kuryakyn Chrome Luggage Rack w/Rubber Inlay for GL1800
ITEM CODE: KU7151,   SKU: KU7151

09.12.2011
I just received this item and installed it. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM UNLESS YOU HAVE TOOLS AND ARE HANDY! The first problem was one of the legs of the rack WOULD NOT accept ANY of the 4 rack risers that I purchased with this item. It 'appeared' to be out-of -round. I managed to use a piece of hardwood and hammer and drove the riser onto the leg (hope I never have to get it off). BTW, two of the legs were welded adequately to the rack, one was welded poorly (bad/uneven stitches) and one was VERY undercut but will no doubt hold together. Not one of the legs would accept the supplied 10-24 machine screws. All the legs had debris (chrome) inside the tapping. I had to go buy a 10-24 machine screw tap and re-tap all 4 legs. The front legs installed easily but the 10-24 x 2" screws are TOO LONG for the rear legs. Fortunately I had double the hardware (for the rack AND the riser kit) so was able to double up the larger rubber washers for the rear legs at the same time as tripling the metal washers under the screw heads in the trunk. I'll cut the screws shorter when I'm back home. Another BTW, the right rear leg was NOT at the right angle to meet the trunk surface squarely but with two rubber washers under it the riser won't mark the trunk. Before pieces are chromed it is ESSENTIAL they are polished to a mirror finish. The underside of the rack appears not to be polished at all (or minimally, you can see the marks left by the rollers or break) hence I expect to have problems with the chrome in the future. Very sorry I bought this thing.

Vertical Trailer Hitch for GL1800 1st Gen

Sorry guys. Gotta give this a 1 because of quality issues. Could easily be a 5 except for complete and utter frustration with the nuts on the plates. Others who have complained identified the right problem but wrong reason; at least for me. It’s not the paint or powder coat in the threads. If it was a tap would have cleaned it. I stripped the tap trying to clean them! I finally ended up buying 2” U-bolts to replace the upper clamps… which were easier to install than the clamps anyway. Other than that I am really impressed. Install could have been done in less than 2 hours except for all the running around to try to clean the threads. Definitely worth buying once they fix the problem with the nuts on the mounting plates. The video is excellent too. BTW, I’m likely to contact Kuryakyn for replacement clamps. I’ll trust the clamp better than the U-bolt.

I would rate this product 5 stars. I had this converter on my 2003 Wing and just recently I had the spoiler dual function light converter installed on my 2010 Wing.

I chose to have the Honda Dealer install this part for me. Why? Because plastic is expensive and if I were to damage any plastic during the installation process the cost to replace a broken part could easily have been much higher than what I paid to have this component professionally installed. The labor cost was just under $33.00 and I was back on the bike in about an hour.

Chrome Passenger Cruise Pegs for GL1800
ITEM CODE: KU7016,   SKU: KU7016

09.10.2011
Very solid, easy to mount, chrome looks good, simple to make adjustments. We like them.

While installing I noticed pitting on my fairly new Transformer Passenger Floorboards, which have not been rained on, have been waxed, always kept clean, & are are garage kept.
I am concerned about that big time!

ITEM: PG02361

Installed the std version. Very nice shift in HB position, making it easier to reach & lean back into rest. This should make those longer rides less stressful on the back- highly recommend. Although a rather simple install I give 4 due to lack of detailed & clear instruction set. Removed speaker & instru cluster cover (disconnect tweeter wires & grip/ seat heater cable), then removed the 4 bolts to loosen instru & NAV cluster to shove out of way, but no disconn of cables, etc. Then removed forks cover & begin HB removal/ install of risers. Take care in removing & reinstalling all the bolts & screws, as dropping them into the void they may never return ;-), I lost one forks cover screw, ugh!

5 Pin Stereo Headset for Open Face/Modular Helmet w/ Boom
ITEM CODE: IMHS-G130P,   SKU: IMHS-G130P

09.09.2011
I have mixed feelings about this headset. The audio quality is actually pretty good for a set of micro-thin speakers. The headset itself is fine, if somewhat flimsy. The Boom mic is sturdy and solid, but is held in place to the shell by Velcro. This will wear out over time. The wiring is well -constructed, but the wire gauge is somewhat fine; this could lead to internal breakage of the wires if they are moved over time.

The connection to the lower cord is a very tight fit. This is fine as it will not fall out, but it can be a bit frustrating sometimes. Additionally, it is not mounted to the helmet in any way; it just hangs out when not connected to the lower cord. Although this looks a bit silly, it can be stuffed into the helmet to be hidden. However, the action of pulling it in and out will weaken the fragile wires over time. Best bet: leave the lower cord hooked up all the time. Kind of negates the concept of a two-piece cord however.

You get what you pay for in most cases, and all of the "issues" above are reflective of the low price. Thus, I do not find any real issues with any of the above as being a fault of the headset. If I want something more sturdy, I'll pay more than what I paid for this headset; I chose to go inexpensive!

This next issue is my biggest irk with the set, and is the main reason the set gets such a low score form me. The lower cord provided is a curled cord that allows it to stretch when necessary. However, it is woefully too short. Dangerously short, I am inclined to say. A headset cord should travel down the body and up the bike to the connection point. But this cord is so short, it make a direct straight connection from the helmet to the bike connection. This places tension on the helmet, causing an annoying pull on the left side of the helmet. (Or the right side, depending on where you have the cord exit the helmet.) Additionally, since the cord is stretched tightly from the helmet to the bike connection by the fairing, the cord is actually in the way of any handling. Granted, one should keep his or her hands on the handlebars at all times, but sometimes the left hand needs to do something else on the bike. The stretched cord can interfere with this.

I contacted IMC to ask how they recommend I resolve this, and they responded with the link below. Wingstuff.com does not carry the extension cord that IMC told me about, unfortunately, so I had to order it directly from IMC. Technically, the extension cord is for sidecar use, but the length of the cord is perfect for what I need; an extra 2 feet of cord for me, the driver, so that the cord will not pull at my head and not be in the way of any hand movements.

At the time of this writing, IMC charges $18 per extension, plus shipping and tax. Unfortunately, I feel that this cord should have come with the set, or the cord in the set should be at least two feet longer. I am extremely disgruntled that I had to purchase an extra cord in order to safely use what is supposed to be a "complete set."

In summary, anyone wanting to buy this headset will find decent sound quality, with some fragile components because of the low item cost. However, for the driver at least, you will also want to order the extension cord from IMC at the link below unless Wingstuff.com starts carrying it.
