Not Worth the Time or Money
After researching and reading other reviews on this product I thought I would give it a try on my 2002 GL1800. I would have sent the product back but discarded the original packaging when it arrived and this is a condition of returning orders. I am a pretty handy guy but was not impressed with the installation. The armrest is almost 1" wider, on the inside, than the original so it does not line up with the original holes. Actually 2 screw locations on the new product could not even be used as they hung completely off the original base support. As mentioned in other reviews, the template supplied for the main bracket is incorrect but I did not find this to be a major issue. It is highly unlikely that you will get the new product to fit as perfectly as in the photo. The biggest concern for me was having to scrunch up the back seat support in order to get it to fit back into place because it now has to fit in an area that is almost 2" narrower. The back seat feels smaller now. I do not know if this fit is because of the year of my bike but the info indicated that it fits all GL1800 Goldwings. A final note, be aware that it is almost impossible to reinstall the old cover (armrest) once it has been removed from the plastic base because they used a form of rivets. I suppose you could try gluing it in place. After all is said and done the armrest only extends forward another 1"or so and is not all that more comfortable. Good Luck with this product. |

Honda Arm Rests
Factory looks and are very comfortable according to my passenger riders. Just take your time and do it right. Well worth the time and expense. |

Look Stock
This are not an easy install (hence the 4 star's) but if you take your time it can be done. Took me nearly 4.5 hours to install. As other reviews stated the "B" template is definitely incorrect. I am glad I read all the reviews first and knew about the template issue as it saved me from drilling a hole in my trunk in the wrong spot. Once I got these installed they do look stock. I am sure that when I have a passenger in this spot they will be happy with the arm rests as well. |

Very nice.
These look and feel stock. Nice and sturdy. It will take you a couple of hours to install, maybe three. Just take your time with the install and you will be happy you went with them. |

Armrests
The wife sat on several bikes with different armrests. There were several she liked but we settled on these because of the look and ergonomic issues with others. These look like they belong on the bike and should be standard. The installation is a challenge. There are hidden linkage/brace parts that must open and close with the trunk lid properly. Removing the original pads is work. Instructions are vague. Be certain of location before you drill. |

I like these armrests better than the others that swing around and get in the way. Be careful and take your time...this is not a quick install. Very neat. |

Fits 2012 Gold Wing (mine has the airbag so it'll probably work on any model below that too). You will need a freakishly large drill bit (13.5mm). You can use a 1/2 bit when you enlarge the holes, but you will have to make it a tiny bit bigger later on. Slowly increase the size of the bit you're using so you don't rip the plastic apart. Installation takes just over an hour. Take your time and work carefully. They seem easy to install, but quite a few parts have to come off in order to put them in. Inner top trunk lid, rear passenger seat, main seat, speakers. To remove the old pads, there are four small posts with nuts. Carefully insert a very small flat blade screwdriver underneath the nut on both sides of it, bend upward. Next, use a pair of pliers to grab both sides and crush it. Repeat 90 degrees on the other side of the nut and crush the other side. They'll just pop off at that point. When you start putting everything back together -- take note of the screw that goes into the speaker from below, the one directly in front of the little cargo door. It needs to be threaded straight up. You can do this by opening the little door and using a stubby phillips screwdriver. A standard length handle is too long. Instructions were fair. They have illustrations outlining the process -- unlike most of the Kuryakyn instructions I've been working with for the past day. |

The arm rests look great with the bike; well integrated without overtaking the passenger's ability to get off/on the bike. The instructions are horrible though. The make no mention of the process on how to remove the existing arm pad from the speaker housing. Otherwise straight forward install... |

One more quick note that I failed to mention in my eariler review..... the product description states "Special Design does not restrict rear speaker audio". I wonder, did the person writing the decription think of where the passenger arm goes?? It is, of course, an ARMREST that mounts on the speaker, and the cut-out inside said armrest is covered by, none-other than, the passenger's ARM!..... As soon as my passenger sat down, her arms covered the cut-outs for the speaker sound .... so the only thing that is "specially designed" here is an armrest with cut-outs to hear audio when a passenger is not present (or not using the armrests)..... If the driver is wearing a half-helmet, then maybe sound could be heard from the rear speakers if a passenger wasn't present ....... interesting that I bought this without thinking of the novelty of having sound to the rear / passenger if they didn't have helmet speakers. |

Not hard to install, just need patience and 2-3 hours. taking apart the trunk and speaker housings, then putting back together is most of it. Like the looks of these much more than the other options out there, unfortunately, Honda is very proud of their accessories and makes you pay out the rear-end for a product that likely cost a tenth to produce. Removing the lock washers holding the stock arm pads on took some prying from under the plastic to get them started, then a screwdriver and a pair of needle-nose pliers to work them the rest of the way off, and yes, need to take off the metal tab clamps at the bottom before they will seperate ...... not rocket science, just takes time. I used a step drill-bit to take care of widening the holes; only drilled the top hole in the trunk then marked, as others previously advised, as template was inaccurate. All-in-all, its worth the time for the looks, but only giving 4 stars as the price is high for what comes down to some pads and support brackets. |
