Ride hard, maintain inflation levels.
I've put over 100,000 km on my 2004 Goldwing and tried a number of different tires. The Cobra's provided by far the best handling for my spirited driving style. I have been able to get 25,000 km (15K miles) from the front tires and about 15,000 km (9K miles)from the rear. I went further on Elite 3s but the bike didn't fall into the curves near as easily. One caveat - you need to over inflate the front tire or it will cup. I put in 41 psi and the tires wear evenly and it reduces the low speed front end wobble. I'm currently on my second set and plan to buy them again. |

Totally shocked!!!!
My ‘06 Wing (90+k) is primary transportation (not fair weather rider, maintain my Wing, member of Iron Butt Association, I ride hard & fast, I go through traffic like grap in a goose). I keep records. These Cobras were reported to get 20K miles. Emphasis add, I didn’t believe it. I do now. Changed tires today, got 22,000 miles out of the Cobras. I saw the wear bars. Better than seeing cords. Handling: I used the 70 profile. Been through several heavy rains for more than an hour at interstate speeds. I love my Wing not even my feet got wet at those speeds. The Wing was very stable with the Avons at 75 to 85 mph. Also highly recommend the Traxxion suspension system. I believe these Avons need to be “broke in†for high speeds. Run them up to 110 mph or better (full throttle), they seem to be a bit unstable at first. They seems to learn and become stable. Have dragged foot pegs, no issues with Avons. They hang on pretty good. Flat wear in center of tread is natural. It is simply the wear on any tire caused by straight down the road riding. Cupping its caused by low tire pressure, poor riders. |

Love the handling. Don't like the way they last
I really like the way these tires handle. As the back tire wore down I noticed a low speed wobble that got worse as they got thinner. I managed to get 6,500 miles out of the back tire and it is shot. Cords showing all the way around. No wonder it wobbles so bad. Hoping to find some new ones that don't break the bank, handle as good and last lots longer. I replaced the front and rear at the same time and the front still has another 2 or 3 thousand I hope. |

I liked them, replaced at 8142 miles
I ride hard in all Alberta Canada conditions, & also did a 3 Flags Classic tour. Trustable wet/dry traction is what I look for. Longevity not a priority. Tires made 13,570kms before rear cords showed & I replaced them. 2012 Wing, 1 up, about 250 lbs rider, gear & stowage load. At about 1500 miles, rear picked up a piece of Montana road junk. I plugged it temp, and then patched it on the inside & finished the tires life. On replacement, there was no evidence of bubbles, seperation, cupping or anything like that. I would buy them again. This time, I am trying Wingstuff Bridgestone Exedra's. |

Follow up review from Mar 2012
After the manufacture flaw, the chunk that came out I replaced with another Avon unfortunately on our way to Wing Ding about 400 miles into the trip the rear tire literally shredded. My first thought was I had run over a nial or something, but after getting to a repair shop the technician pointed out the samething Dan from Grove City Oh saw, bubbles in the material. I put a metzler 880 on the back and have been happy ever since. I have had three sets of Avon Tyres, but never again for me. We were two up towing a trailer and like others I am religious about checking my tire pressure. Avon if you read these reviews, you have some work to do to bring loyal customers like me back. Our lives depend on quality manufacturing! |

10K on 2nd set so far
Last post was 2/24/10. I got 18K+ out of that set. Re-booted and am around 10K on this set. Back tire is cooperating as expected. Shows center ware but no cupping or cracking. Traction is still awesome over E3s and others I've tried. Love the dynamic balancers. I keep the tires at 43lbs religiously. However, this front tire wants to drift to the left at all speeds and I cannot take both my hands off the bars at all. I was hoping that it was just a mold lip that would ware off. Also went back and re-setup the front axle thinking I may have snugged it out of true but no luck. Showing weird wear signs. I wonder if rubber compound changes from batch to batch? I'll replace the front and keep a close watch on it. FYI I replaced the fork brace with the "super brace" by WingStuff and that removed 90% of any front end wobble that the Wing is famous for. The 5th star will come back if the next front is as good as the 1st one. |

Kicked to the Curb
I have used three sets of these tires and up to this last set i would have sworn by them. I loved the tires. Right now i have approximately 7k miles on a set and they are trash... and i mean trash. I have pictures of the rear tire .. the inside of the tire is coming apart, huge bubbles all the way around one edge on the inside ... It looks as if the layers of the tire are separating and maybe the belts are coming loose. The front tire was looking bad also just not quite as bad. Now i dont know what the reason for this is ..but i dont like it. If they had some problem on a given day or with a certain person building these tires ... it could have cost me my life. I wont buy them again. So to all that do... good luck ... and be careful. |

4k mi...excellent performance
I held off writing until I had some miles on these puppies. Their handling & road noise are excellent. Have driven the OEM Dunlop D250 (10k mi before nail), & previously an Elite 3 set to 8-9k mi. E3s were very noisy, loose in the corners, & exhibit a greater degree of cupping than D250, in addition to more pronounced wobble at slow/ tranistion speeds. The Elites still have tread (will keep for interim set), decided to put the Avon Cobra's on for a 2500 mi trip to AZ, riding the old Rte 666 Devils hwy (aka hwy 191)- did that stretch have some curves!!..~1100 to be close!! The Avons handled superbly & without whining or missing a beat. Some slight wet stretches, no problems, but need heavier rain to be sure. No evidence of cupping or other yet. Will see if I get 8-10k mi from them. |

17,000 miles and out...
Update on the Avon Cobras... Replacing both my front and rear tire with another set of Avon Cobra's. The old Cobras had slightly over 17,000 miles on them. I ride fairly aggressive and the previous set served me extremely well. I highly recommend the Avon Cobra for usage on any GL1800. |

Extremely dissapointed
Installed these at the same time I put the centramatics on. Great ride and very smooth to begin with, but had to replace the back tire at 6500 miles. Tire was completely worn out and extremely cupped. Was hoping to get a lot more miles out of the tire than that, especially since I was meticulous about keeping correct tire pressure. Front tire will probably be replace in less than a 1000 miles, so needless to say, I'm not a big fan of Avon Cobra tires. If I was rating on handling capabilities, it would be a 10. But add it all up and I won't be buying these tires again. |

Very satisfied
Put front and rear Cobras on 17K miles ago. I had a nail in the rear and replaced it with another Cobra insted of repair. It had 3/32 at the wear bar and I would have gone a while longer and done front and rear at the same time. Yes it was cupped and made some noise in sweeping turns but that only seemed to become really noticeable the last 3K miles I'd guess. Have always run 41 front and rear and put the cetramatics on at about 2K into their run. I check other guys tires all the time to see how my wear might compare to theirs and comparisons have always been in favor of my Cobras. Great tire and I'll stay with them as long as no-one else has something magical. Todays ride was totally SMOOTH. |
