Cheap insurance for protecting those costly driving lights. Don't ask me how I know! There is some drilling involved to mount these covers, so take your time and use many smaller drill bits to evenly get to the size required, which if I recall was 15/32, to use the rubber grommet type fasteners. As one of the other reviewers stated, it would have been nice to have gotten "chrome" mounting bolts, particularly if your lower front cowl is chrome. These are stainless steel, I believe, which is the next best bolt to use for this application. |
My OEM front lower cowl was getting to look a bit tacky due to numerous small rock chips around my driving lights. I debated going with Kuryakyn's lower front chrome covers that fit around the driving lights to hide these, but opted going with a full new chrome front instead. I'm glad I did, as it goes nicely with the chrome timing cover that I added some while back, plus as an added bonus, I saved $20, as compared to what Kurkakyn wanted for their covers. I also opted installing the Hondaline driving light protective covers to protect those costly EC driving lights. Don't ask me how I know! As all GL-1800 owners know who have replaced their lower front cowl, it's not the easiest thing to do, getting every thing to line back up. Plus having to dremel out the driving light knock-outs and reinstalling my EC spring loaded driving light mounts was a bit of a hassel. But once done, it was worth the hassles and my efforts. My '02 has gotten itself a new "facelift". It's happy and so am I. |
I put this on just for looks, but if you do buy one, spend the few extra $$ and get the risers - you just can NOT get your hands under it for cleaning without them |
same as most of you, having problems with the rubber coming out all the time, the tape does suck, but I managed to make it work somewhat, at least to the point the grips don't twist on the bars by covering the grips with a paper towel, then wrapping electric tape very tightly over the whole grip to keep pressure on it all night, and that stopped the slippage I was having upon installation. Also, I do like the size, but I have huge hands, but I do feel like I lost an awful lot of the heat he factory grips had - for me, at least, it doesn't really feel like it gets warm anymore, at least nothing like it used to |
Outstanding product which should be standard equipment with a new purchase from HONDA (hint, hint). Great fit, buttons remain accessible and it protects the machine. |
Just got one and it is rock solid - fine workmanship, heavy and solid - looks great. The flag is a bit of an odd size though :) Easy on - slip over the antenna and set the lock screw with an allen wrench and ride on! |
To me, they're just too big. These slip over the stock grips.(I wear a medium size glove) I decided to go with the Hondaline chrome grips for the comfort package which I'm told are not so big. (Haven't received them yet) I'll have them painted to match the bike color if they suit my liking. On some items, Hondaline seems to suit factory applications better I'm thinking this might be one of those better applications. If you want an updated opinion once they arrive and have been installed, email me. |
Just the added boost I needed to retaliate against that music powered car that pulled up next to me at the light. He didn't hear me but, best of all, I didn't hear him. (except for that God awful BOOM! BOOM!) Nice sound and volume. I counter attacked with Sinatra. (They hate that!) Low cost upgrade with good results. Buy these with the money you saved on the Hondaline luggage liners. Also, spring for the rear speaker upgrades. You won't be disappointed |
I wanted a black cup and holder but, to me, even the 20oz. cup is too big. Well constructed set up with a tight lid but, I don't need a straw as I'm a coffee drinker. I decided to go with the Kuryakyn cup holder instead. |
Initially, it was unclear to me whether I could wire this as a brake AND running light based on the product description. Well, you can. 3 wires from the top light and 3 wires from the bottom. Installation instructions left a bit to be desired but, you can figure it out. (I never was very good at wiring) Nice chrome and to me it looks more appealing than the others offered. Nice rear safety lighting addition. |
Love this product. Works great and easy to install. Its a bit of work routing the wires. But well worth the effort. |
Update on my previous review where I gave it 5 stars. I don't know what caused it, but the finished either tarnished or faded, but the color went from a nice uniform gold to gold with green streaks and some rainbowing effect. I had to remove it. |
