What does the ultimate GL1800 Gold Wing Front End Feel Like? It's controlled, doesn't dive excessively, firm yet plush at the same time. Stock cartridge forks, at best, are a compromise and some are downright poor. The fact that you have a cartridge system doesn't necessarily mean that it works well. The stock valving systems can be modified but they all have major limitations. The Solution is GL1800 Race Tech Gold Valves.
By improving the piston design we are able to give outstanding performance and tuneability. And, as with other Gold Valve Products, they can be installed and tuned by any competent mechanic.
Race Tech has created a kit to address the special issues of the GL1800, Race Tech Gold Valve Cartridge kit FMGV S2048C. For the cartridge side we use a Compression and Rebound Gold Valve to custom set the damping for rider weight and riding ability . On the Damping Rod side the Gold Valve Emulator is used to complete the custom set-up. The results are an awesome handling bike that is custom set and with out the big price tag.
This 2008 GL1800 odometer reads only 19679 miles. The ride was harsh, NO ruff I would ride around manhole covers because it would hurt my back! I was also experiencing the much talked about 30 to 40 MPH front-end wobble. Last weekend I installed the Gold Valve and Emulator fork kit with the Race Tech springs for my wing. I have been a wrench all my life and want to caution anyone that wants to install this DYI kit. Let Race Tech do your install if your level of expertise is under par. Not wanting to chance a botched job I read the instructions several times to make sure everything went smooth. Granted this install is relatively straightforward but suspension and brakes are two things I take very seriously. While I had the front forks dismantled I took the extra time to install the All Balls triple tree bearing upgrade. The money and time spent was quite apparent and astounding on the first ride. Really words can’t describe the difference these two upgrades made to the ride. The front wobbles, GONE! Only down side is, now you can feel the difference between the upgraded front forks and the stock rear suspension. As soon as I can I will upgrade the rear. Hats off to Race Tech! You're the best!
I had the Race Tech Gold Valve Emulator fork kit and the rear shock installed at Race Tech in Corona Ca. I have 47k miles on my wing and noticed several suspension/steering issues. Tracking issues at high speed, un-steady at slow speed, and overall rough ride. After the Race Tech upgrade all the suspension are gone. Turn in and over all steering response is greatly improved. I find I'm riding faster and I'm alot more aggressive in the curves. The overall feel is more sport like, the ride is firm but smooth. The wife was not happy about the money spent on suspension until we went for nice ride on Angelus Crest Hwy. She noticed the smooth ride right away and eventhough she can't see the upgrade the seat of the pants feel speaks for itself, thumbs up from her. If I had a chance to do it all again I would have spent the money on the suspension first instead of the chrome S#%t. 5 stars
I had the Race Tech springs, Race Tech gold valves, the all balls bearings and the Superbrace installed at the same time, so I'm not exactly sure what item had the largest impact on the improvement. I originally had the 1.20 springs installed and they were a little too stiff for me, so I brought the bike back to Wingstuff and they replaced the springs with the .95 units which ended up being perfect.. I am glad I took the leap.. Customer service at Wingstuff is topnotch!! Dave, Earl, AJ and Brent are good dudes..
And we can't wait to show you how it's done!
