Installed these heated grips on my base-model 2008 Goldwing 1800.I couldn't find the factory plug-in some people mentioned on earlier year models under the right fairing pocket so I ran the provided power lead to the "accessory" connection at the left side fuse block.(with the key "off" they won't draw any power even if I leave the grips turned on) Make sure to "dry-fit" the heated grips to both sides and pay particular attention to the throttle side that you leave enough slack in the power lead coming off the grip that it lets the throttle FULLY open and that it lets it snap back to idle without binding or catching on the brake lever-this took some experimenting and when I was happy where it was at the best location I marked it with a pen on the grip and a spot on the handle bars so after I removed it to apply the "Grip-glue" it would be right where I had it.The location for the heat "controller" is the only reason for the 4 star rating instead of a "5".The hole necessary to get the plug-ins thru from the controller needs to be so large that I didn't want the big gaping hole showing ( the area below and outside the right fairing pocket) where I wanted to install it so I opted to actually put it INSIDE the right lockable fairing pocket.I drilled a hole in the bottom of the fairing pocket and fed my power feed wires up thru that and mounted the controller inside the pocket-won't be as handy to get at than if it was mounted outside somewhere but wasn't sure how water-proof the controller would be out in the rain and also figured the temps I'm riding in wouldn't change that fast to where I can't just readjust the setting on the controller when I make my "stops". I want to mention that after my install was done I turned them on and was really pleased with how warm they got-I'm sure cold hands will be a thing of the past-Safe Riding

Installed on an 05 - GL1800. Fairly easy install(see below) and good/quick heat output. They look like stock grips. -- Installed on the right side below the lockable compartment, next to keyhole. Instructions said dril 9/16" hole to run wires through but that wouldn't have been big enough due to the size of the power connector. I chose to open the case, unsolder the wires, feed through a 7/64 hole then resolder them back on the control unit. This made for a clean install look. The power cable for the 05 is right behind the panel and plugs right in. Good product, take your time.

So nice to have warm hands. I put my controller in the left pocket. That way i can turn it up or down while still riding. Easily mounts and wires to the battery. With the controller on the left its a straight shot to the battery.

I've had a few emails about my 'alterations' on these, I apologise for not answering, not been around due to an accident.
The 'routing'. Drill hole through right hand pocket, feed the cable through, mounting the controller inside the lockable pocket. Do not use the long 'controller to battery' cable if you want to connect to the factory fitted socket on the right upper side. After connecting the grips, the white connector you are left with would normally fit to the supplied battery cable, this connector WILL fit the factory plug, but, you have to cut the wires about a couple if inches from the plug and simply reconnect it 'reversed' as the '+' and 'minus' are the wrong way for the factory plug. (Obviously you are not reversing the current, just the plug). I did the full job of fitting them, including utilising the factory fitted socket, in under an hour and without the need to route another cable to the battery.
