Installed on my 2008. Was not a fun job. Based on my experience, as well as most of the other reviews, beleive some of the hole locations are off a little causing most of the difficulty. Be prepared to pry & bend to make the holes line up. Also made the rear cover hard to install. In the end, this is a nice robust hitch for the price. Nothing else comes close for the cost. The instructions lack adequate detail unless you have installed a hitch before, so wouldn't recommend tackling this without the directions from wingstuff. Once installed I'm happy with it. This get four stars for the hole locations and poor directions.
I have a new GL1800 w/CSC 2008 and put about 400 miles on it and noticed that I had picked up a few rocks that chipped the paint (very small) touch up fixed it. I purchased this extender and haven't noticed any other nicks in 3k. As another user reported it still doesn't protect from road grime being thrown up on the cowl. They do look great and went on easy and didn't remove the fender.
I put another 200 or so miles on the wheel balancers. Yes - definately a difference and a smooth ride. As per my earlier review, you can hear the beads sloshing around a bit at slower speeds (
Just installed. The installation was easy but I had to file quite a bit of flash from the underside of the kickstand. Instructions say to slide on but in the end I used a small dead-blow hammer to seat it. I can't believe that it could come off with or without the set screw. It's a little larger than I had anticipated but I have no doubt that it will perform as advertised.
Well made and very solid. A little pricey but then quality always is until you realize how much longer it lasts. I have the armrests that mount to the seat mount grab handles so I could not mount to the rear bolt as shown but it fits equaly well on the front bolt. Just position the arm straight up with enough clearance for the knurled nut to clear the grab handle. I sat on the rear sea and there is no problem with the unit hitting the passengers leg or the saddle bag when you get the right mounting angle.
Like the mounting system but that's about it. The plastic covers themselves are a poor fit and don't conform to my lower cowl at all well. I will probably reform them slightly in the future using a heat gun. Honda's normal quality in manufacture is definitely absent here....

Definitely finishes off bottom of the bike! Some of the edges are sharp, so wearing some gloves is probably a good idea. Installation took me about 20 minutes, but I was careful not to slice my hands while pulling off the protective white film. |
Easy install. I bought this one instead of the one without the bezel for the same price. Why did I buy it? For peace of mind, knowing now what kind of voltage I have and what kind of load is coming off the battery. This should be standard on any motorcycle, just like in a car.
Had mine for a few weeks now. Installed it myself with a friend of mine. I was able to use a Dremmel to cut the hole in the trunk with it in place that saved allot of time, just take your time. The plugs weren't hard to find but make sure you here the click for a good connection. I had a problem after the first day of riding with the front harness plug loosening up witch caused a CB ERROR on my display. Do yourself a favor and secure the front connector with a small ti rap or wax string even if you here the click. I still can't figure out how that connector came loose. Best price from Wing Stuff and works great now. Whole new experience riding and communicating with the Buds. Thanks Wing Stuff!
Yes I too have losted the LEFT side (twice) out on the highway while riding. The left one just flat want stay in. Go the safe route silicone it in place.
They look great but the left side did not fit for some reason. Holes did not line up. But the right side fit perfect. I also found that the left side front lower screw was sheared off. Don't know why it did not fall off. Must have been torqued too much at the factor but did not break off until I tried to remove it. Just clued the head back on. Did not seem like it was needed. When I get time I will try to drill it out.
These work great, trunk lid closes tighly now. Would recommend.
