Rick's Rides - Episode 11 Road to Mount St. Helens

In the second part of Rick's Pacific Northwest trip, he checks another destination off his bucket list as he rides to Mount St. Helens. It's not everyday he gets to ride to an active volcano. He starts his trip in the small town of Battle Ground, Washington and heads north on Highway 503. It takes him through forests, farms, and a series of small towns. About halfway into the ride there's a one lane suspension bridge that spans across the scenic Lewis River.

For part of the ride he runs along Yale Lake, and if you're out there on the right day you can see the top of Mount St. Helens peeking over the top of the trees. As he passes through the town of Cougar, Highway 503 turns into Road 90. The route gradually elevates into the mountains with mile after mile of dense forests as you navigate through semi-banked turns and crests. About 13 miles northeast of Cougar is the iconic, Mount St. Helens. Overall, it's a great trip if you're in the mood for a nice, mellow day ride.
