Bridgestone Tires for GL1800 & F6B

4 Stars for tread life 3 Stars for tire quality The tires that came with my 2006 GW when I bought it new really sucked, and I hung on to them as long as I could. But I replaced them after only 9k miles when the front tire became so cupped it felt unsafe when leaning on curves. I replaced both of them with the Bridgestones and was quite pleased until this past weekend while on a long ride I developed a wobble. It turned out to be a bulge on the side of the rear tire. I only had about 9k miles and the tread on both the front and rear stilled looked good. I replaced the rear with another Bridgstone because I didn’t want to replace both the front and rear with another brand. The Bridgestones really do give a very smooth ride and I am hoping that this tire will last a little longer than the last one. |

I recently purchased this item and then went on a 1,600 mile trip. It worked great. Along with the luggage rack bag I bought to go on top of the trunk, I increased my storage capacity considerable. It works great, except now my wife thinks she can take 5 pairs of shoes instead of two. |

I appreciated reading the reviews. It helped me in my own installation this past weekend. Before I started, I went to the local hardware store and bought bolts to replace the 1/4” flange bolts as was recommended. The ones shipped with the hitch don’t seem to be either SAE or metric. It also took me about two hours, but after the installation, I realized that I could have done it much quicker, since I gained insight during the installation. I did have to use a large pair of channel locks to get the upper clamps on, gently forcing them into place. It is a very tight fit, but there was enough flex in the saddle bags to allow the clamp to be forced onto the upper frame bar without loosening the saddle bags. It is also easier if you do not loosely bolt on the forward bracket as directed in Step 2. It is much easier to mount the subframe plate and then loosely bolt on the two trunion bars. Then you can adjust the Heim joint in the trunion bar and attach it to the forward bracket. I was then able to rotate the front bracket into place on top of the crash bar. You can then see where you need to trim the saddle bag. Remove the forward bracket and trim the saddle bag. Place the nut on the long bolt (through the Heim joint and front bracket and then place the forward bracket into position. Finish by tightening all of the bolts. I haven’t towed anything with it yet, but it seems really solid. My first use will be with the Rivco rack and bag. Good luck! |

UPDATE! I just returned from a 1,700 mile trip to San Diego. I used to get a sore back after 3-4 hours on the bike, however, during this trip my back was never sore. The backrest worked wonders. The only problem I had was with a sore rear end, but that is another problem that I need to work on. I just wished I had made this purchase several years ago. I would have saved myself a lot of pain and suffering during long trips. |

My rating is only for the installation. I am getting ready to take a 2K+ trip this month to SoCal, so I will reserve my comfort rating until I get back. Before installing I went out to the following website: https://www.goldwingfacts.com/1800Utopiabackrest.htm The instructions and pictures there are much better than what comes with the seat. There is also a link at the bottom of the website that takes you to a video of the installation. The installation took me about an hour, but only because I wanted to make sure I didn't screw the seat up, because they are expensive to replace. I did have to work at clearing out the foam so I could attached the bottom bracket to the top bracket. After clearing out the foam (using an awl), I used a small phillips screw driver to line up the holes. The installation was really staight forward and was a breeze. |

Great for deflecting air away from and towards the driver area. Easy installation (about 10 minutes total). May want to use several pieces of masking tape over mirror fixture and front of mirror so it won't fall out after removing the set screw. If you break the mirror it will cost you $160 to replace since Honda only sells the mirror and fixture together (I speak from experience). Go figure. Also, you may want to use some locktite on the threads before screwing into the mirror fixture. This will help prevent the threads from unscrewing from the mirror as you repeatedly adjust the wind wing. |

Great addition to the bike and easy to install. The template provided with the instructions makes it easy to drill the holes in the right place. You just need to make sure to use the right templates for each the left and right side moldings. After drilling the holes, I had it mounted in about ten minutes. Directs air in warm weather to driver for a dramatic cooling effect. In the cool of the evenings use them to keep air off of you. |

The installation took some doing, but the results were worth the work. I only hooked up the trunk lights. Wanted the lower brake lights to operate normally. Easiest to remove tail lights on trunk and make connections at connector on outer lights (both left and right). Green wire w/red stripe is brake wire. Other green wire is ground. Brown wire is hot for running lights. Mounted module in trunk (rear right). Pretty clean installation, but tight fit. Even added a small switch to easily change between the two operating modes. |
