How Difficult Is It To Ride A Gold Wing?

Held Tight to the STEEP VERTICAL Learning Curve
as though I was competing in American Gladiator. I jumped at the chance to purchase a 46K mile '93 GL1500 Interstate from the widow of her prior owner. She understood when I said, Bunny, I know the value of the GoldWing, but I'm not authorized to spend more than $200 without my wife's approval. Bless her heart, she said she understood, Well, since getting my one car garage back to keeping my NEW car is more important that your money, I accept your offer, and your wife CAN'T get mad at you! Cross my heart, TRUSE SCRIPT! Eight Weeks later, My FIRST ride on her was INTIMIDATING to say the least. Plowed snow was piled roadside and i took her on a test ride from the unbranded MC shop. Was FAR smoother than I expected after 30 years away from owning a '88 CB450SC NightHawk. I hunter the internet ruthlessly for any and all info about re-learning to ride, and more importantly, how different a GoldWing was from any other MC on the road. What an Overload!!!! I used my local church's LIT parking lot to explore every unknown capability of my new friend, expanded my knowledge, suffered my drops as I tried new things from 0 mph (NO INJURIES. Sure glad it was a USED MC!) 874 miles after acquisition, wife and I want to MSF BRC2 on GrapeVine. I rode the exercises and got feedback as a solo rider, picked her up and did the exercise AGAIN, and we BOTH got VERY POSITIVE, albeit critiquing, feedback on my piloting and her passengering skills. We both left the class smarter and better equipped to keep learning about the GoldWing. Now, I'm an MSF Rider Coach TEACHING this to incoming riders. and I'm still learning. It sure is fun whipping the Wing around the MSF course as the students file in on Saturdays after Lunch.
