Rider Etiquette: The Salute

The camaraderie is another value of the ride.
As a rider and a pilot, it's great to feel that camaraderie that riders share. Don't feel that just because a rider fails to acknowledge you that he or she is being 'stuck up', sometimes with all of what is going on when riding, I don't always see another rider until they have passed. I'm sure others suffer from the same, I typically acknowledge all I see, but I'm sure I miss a few. Lucky enough, my co-rider typically acknowledges as well, so maybe I don't miss as many as I think. This same camaraderie exist among pilots, we don't typically get close enough to wave, but when you land at an airport, you quickly realize you are among friends. I've even had complete strangers at a small airport loan me their vehicles to go get a bite to eat. One even offered to give me money for gas in his new truck, I was like No Way, I brought it back on full.

Ok, I was frost bitten as a young teen, and when the temp gets below 45 my hands start to purple up and below 40 its generally painful. My 2005 GL1800 does a pretty good job of deflecting a lot of wind and allows me to ride in cooler temps than my 2007 Boulevard, but below 55 things get cooler at speed, and I typically have to put my thermal UA gloves on under my fingerless. I hate this because I lose the ability to use the touch screen on my phone which we use for GPS and music. I read many reviews about the Air Wings and figured I would give it a try. The temp was supposed to near 60 F on New Years, so we opted to go try them out. Wow! We left out before noon so it was in the low 50's and I had no insulated gloves on, and I rode all day. After dark I started to get chilly and stopped to grab my overjacket and insulated gloves and when I popped up the temp it was 42 degrees! I am so glad I bought these. My wife said they made a lot of difference for her as well in the back. I highly recommend these they extend your comfortable riding days into cooler weather.

I plugged this switch in and had it installed in less than 30 mins, including removing the trim cover. I'm delighted that it solved my problem with the old switch.

I usually keep my GW in the garage, but often on the weekends when we have time to ride more than one day, I like the convenience of leaving it out in the driveway, or when we take an overnight. This cover rolls up small enough to fit in the saddle bag, and is strong enough that I don't worry about it falling apart. It fits my 2005 30th anniversary edition just fine.
