I bought this headset for my modular helmet. It installed Okay but not very easy. The wires separated shortly after installing under normal use. I will probably end up ditching this headset. I will attempt fixing it if I can. I will stick w/ J&M or other brands from now on. IMC is cheap & not worth any savings you get. Dr. Ride, M.D.* *Motorcycle Dude |

I like this set because ...
I also purchased the Vega XTA Touring Shorty Helmet (wingstuff.com) with zip on/off communication curtain at same time to install this headset system. The install was easy and the sound quality is really good. I took the advice of others and zip-tied the headset wiring to the helmet so as not to tug on the thin speaker wires with the lower cord. I do not foresee any problems and plan to follow-up on my review in two months. Overall I was able to purchase a helmet and com system for approximately $123. |

Great for the money
I've purchased three of these, and two of the external headsets by IMC for use with shorty helmets. The sound quality is very good, up to about 60 MPH. After that, it's hard to get my wife/riding partner to understand me. I had some problems with one of them, and ordered another (at that price, it's not too bad), but when the second one lost one speaker, I pulled off the shrink-tubing and found a broken wire. I chose not to try solder, as they're very tiny. Instead, I twisted the two ends together and wrapped them with electrical tape. Then I secured them under the helmet padding. To keep the cord from pulling them loose again, I used the awl from my small Leatherman, and poked a hold through the rubber trim on my helmet. Using a small wire tie, I secured the cord to the helmet as a strain relief. Since then I've had no problems, and really good sound. If I hadn't had to repair the connection, I'd have given them 5 stars. If you secure the cord when you put the unit in your helmet, you'll give it 5 stars. |

I have mixed feelings about this headset. The audio quality is actually pretty good for a set of micro-thin speakers. The headset itself is fine, if somewhat flimsy. The Boom mic is sturdy and solid, but is held in place to the shell by Velcro. This will wear out over time. The wiring is well -constructed, but the wire gauge is somewhat fine; this could lead to internal breakage of the wires if they are moved over time. The connection to the lower cord is a very tight fit. This is fine as it will not fall out, but it can be a bit frustrating sometimes. Additionally, it is not mounted to the helmet in any way; it just hangs out when not connected to the lower cord. Although this looks a bit silly, it can be stuffed into the helmet to be hidden. However, the action of pulling it in and out will weaken the fragile wires over time. Best bet: leave the lower cord hooked up all the time. Kind of negates the concept of a two-piece cord however. You get what you pay for in most cases, and all of the "issues" above are reflective of the low price. Thus, I do not find any real issues with any of the above as being a fault of the headset. If I want something more sturdy, I'll pay more than what I paid for this headset; I chose to go inexpensive! This next issue is my biggest irk with the set, and is the main reason the set gets such a low score form me. The lower cord provided is a curled cord that allows it to stretch when necessary. However, it is woefully too short. Dangerously short, I am inclined to say. A headset cord should travel down the body and up the bike to the connection point. But this cord is so short, it make a direct straight connection from the helmet to the bike connection. This places tension on the helmet, causing an annoying pull on the left side of the helmet. (Or the right side, depending on where you have the cord exit the helmet.) Additionally, since the cord is stretched tightly from the helmet to the bike connection by the fairing, the cord is actually in the way of any handling. Granted, one should keep his or her hands on the handlebars at all times, but sometimes the left hand needs to do something else on the bike. The stretched cord can interfere with this. I contacted IMC to ask how they recommend I resolve this, and they responded with the link below. Wingstuff.com does not carry the extension cord that IMC told me about, unfortunately, so I had to order it directly from IMC. Technically, the extension cord is for sidecar use, but the length of the cord is perfect for what I need; an extra 2 feet of cord for me, the driver, so that the cord will not pull at my head and not be in the way of any hand movements. At the time of this writing, IMC charges $18 per extension, plus shipping and tax. Unfortunately, I feel that this cord should have come with the set, or the cord in the set should be at least two feet longer. I am extremely disgruntled that I had to purchase an extra cord in order to safely use what is supposed to be a "complete set." In summary, anyone wanting to buy this headset will find decent sound quality, with some fragile components because of the low item cost. However, for the driver at least, you will also want to order the extension cord from IMC at the link below unless Wingstuff.com starts carrying it. Bought a set 1 year ago the cord to the right ear snapped within 8 months. I tried to fix them myself but no go. I bought a second replacement set before mt trip across Canada... less than 3 weeks the same thing happened. I dont know if their made to do this or the're just crap. I'm looking for a better sturdier set. |

Bought a new wing and thought I would save a few dollars using the IMC headsets but found the volume very low even when cranked all the way up. First thought it was a problem with my audio system but I had a old set of J&M headsets from my first wing and they worked great. Will stay with J&M. |

After using J&M for years on a previous Goldwing, I thought I would try to save some money using these IMC headsets. The sound was ok but the volume had to be set on the highest setting to get reasonable sound. Thought maybe I had an audio problem with my new Goldwing. Swapped out with some old J&M headsets I had and learned it was the IMC headsets and not my audio system. I will be staying with J&M. Prices are high but quality is more important to me. |

Just installed in the wife's helmet and took it out to test. The amount of noise this headset picked up and transmitted was terrible. Ended up turning volume down so i could hear the radio. I read all the other reviews and thought it would be a good buy. Should have spent another $100 or so and got the J&M Elite. Live and learn! |

I bought this set over a year ago then forgot about it. I recently installed it in an Arai Quantum helmet I've owned for years. Just got back from a 2000K run and I can honestly say that it is the best sounding headset I have ever owned. I recenly bought a Nolan flip up helmet with J&M Elite installed. This inexpensive set in the Arai sounds much much better than the Nolan combo. Highly recommended. |

I too prefer this headset over the J&M. Install was a sinch (modular/Scorpion Transformer) and the sound is AWESOME. Only been using for a couple of days now. IMC does have a newer model, kinda wish I could have found it here. |

Simple and easy install. Used them for over a year, had to glue the mic in place again. Not bad given the small sticker that holds it in place. But sounds and voice are great. -1 Star - Not the best for the modular helmets. This being the reason for the remount of the MIC. |
