Waterproof Lighted Volt Meter
ITEM CODE: HO37453ZW5000ZA,   SKU: HO37453ZW5000ZA

07.02.2010
I like this gauge and the way it looks on my 2002 GL1800. However...installation instructions are not provided with the gauge (unless you wish to install on a boat) and it can be a challenge to figure out where to connect the gauge. That is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5.

After searching in vain for the elusive "red connector" mentioned by others, I started going through a Service Manual that I had purchased when I bought the bike. The spare connector that is desired for connection to the volt meter is actually a 3P type connector intended for grip heaters. If your bike does NOT have heated grips, then this connector is probably available for the volt meter.

On 2001 and 2002 models, this connector is white in color and located in the area under the right front speaker, near the wiring for the right turn signal. Remove the locked storage compartment tray to access this area. It is hard to get to, but with small hands the volt meter can be connected here without removing other panels.

For 2003 through 2005 models, the grip heater connector is red in color and located in the rubber boot as mentioned by others. My manual only covers bikes up to 2005, but others have said that a separate wiring harnes is required for 2006 and up.

I would expect that if your bike has grip heaters, then this connector may not be available. In this case, unless you can locate another unused 3P type connector, you could either add an adapter harness or splice into the wiring for the grip heaters to connect the volt meter.
