I would give this 6 stars if the option was available! This product I actually bought from Butler at Wingding due to the long Wingstuff lines. I have used other holders, but this one is the best. How do you stay hydrated for a whole day ride in 90+ degrees? At the end of 8 hours, there was still ice in the cup. Great product!
The very best accessory for your wing! I find that I can now ride all day with this backrest. There are a number of YouTube videos to help you do the install. The most difficult thing about the install was committing to making the slit-cut in your seat for the bracket to slide into place.
Purchased front and rear Avon Cobra Radials for my GL1800. I ride fairly aggressive. Placed over 5,500 miles on the tires and could not be more pleased with their performance thus far. An outstanding tire.
Just installed this hitch and I must say it is much more complicated than the Kuryakin I put on my 04. I installed it without a helper and it isnt that difficult just very tedious, so just follow the steps. I took several breaks to have a clear head as several of the bolts go into frame threads, and you dont want to crossthread one of them. I havnt had a chance to use it yet, but it looks good.
I just put one on my 12 and it works great and matches the radio ant. Dont worry about drilling the holes for this unit, they are marked on the inside and drill out very easy.
I installed one on my 04 and thought I would never do that again as it was very time consuming. It worked like it should and happy I did it. I now own a 12 and knowing how great a cb can be when group riding I decided to try it again. The install on a 12 is much easier than the older models and only took about an hour. The directions are clear and accurate if you just follow the steps, dont let them overwhelm you when you first read them.
Second review, still 5 stars. I originally had a problem that the two bolts seemed really hard to bolt in to the bracket, so I used a die and tap to "clean" the threads. Don't do it. I since had the problem of the bolts loosening up from the bracket and the backrest would slop around. I got new bolts and re-mounted them. You only do this once hopefully, don't worry about the tightness of bolts when you wrench them in, it keeps your backrest in place.
It is easy to install but pulling the bars apart to mount to bracket can cause scratches or tears if you arnt real careful. I now use the Utopia and I find it to be far more comfortable for the driver. The wife agrees since there are no bars in her legs but she has a little trouble mounting. The Kury doesnt seem to have as good of adjustment as the Utopia. This is still a good unit and easier to install.
I put one on my 12 and it is very comfortable, I had a Kuryakin before and this is way better for the driver. The wife seems to have a harder time loading/unloading but when she is on it there are no bars in the way. It really isnt as hard to install as sounds. Just watch the you tube a couple times and make the cuts, just make sure your long knife angles to the bottom plate and your good.
I put one on my 04 and now on my 12, the wife likes the way it keeps her arms comfortable while reading her kindle. chrome is good and they are easy to install if you have tools. Put a huggy around your bottle and it stays in the drink holder fine.
The bottom of the basket hits/rubs the top of the saddlebag on the back seat bolt. While it can be mounted on the front seat bolt, that position is a little inconvenient for short legged passengers. Dissappointed - they just had to make the mount a 1/4" higher and it would have been perfect.
I suspect reviewer Robert's Metzler that seperated after 7000 miles had been mounted backward. I have Metzlers on my VTX1300 and my Goldwing and they're great. Shortly after having them put on my VTX I noticed the rotation arrow pointing in the wrong direction so I called Metzler. They said to turn it around immediately or the tread would eventually seperate. At my insistance the dealer provided a new tire mounted in the correct direction.
