First, I want to say "Thank you" to Dan Brunclik (Big Bike Parts) and Mark Angiel (WingStuff Customer Service.) I ordered one on October 28th, 2013 and was back ordered and received on January 22nd, 2014. I didn't have time to install the unit right away and fortunately, we had a nice mild winter. I finally had those grips installed in July this summer at local Honda shop, but the grips never got warm. I thought I may misunderstood the operating instruction since the controller was hard to use, so I emailed to Big Bike Parts. Dan was trying to solve the problems and gave me some suggestions. I found that I was doing right thing... I took my Wing to Honda again to check all the connections and battery, but everythig was O.K. except the grips. The mechanic said the grips are defective. I emailed WingStuff and Mark sent me a new set of unit. Grips work really great and the new EZ One Button Controller is very easy to use and easy to see the lights. It took me few weeks to get used to handle bigger grips, especially, when I use reverse. I don't like winter, but I can't wait to use heated grips. Looks great and warm!! |

These grips are not made properly for the GL1500. The throtle tube comes pre-glued into the throtle grip and it is in the wrong position. The power cord is sticking out the top of the throtle when installed on the bike making it very difficult to keep the power cord out of the way of the cruse control buttons. The power cord is supposed to come out of the bottom or toward the front of the bike. Even the instructions say this. When I talked to Show Chrome they said they had sold thousands of these without complaint but when he finally understood what I was telling him he agreed that they were made wrong and that he would take this information back to his quality control department. I decided to install them anyway since I like the look and I had to have something before heading out on a trip to California from Colorado over the Rocky Mountains in early April. Some have complained about the length of the wiring but I had no problem with that. In fact really more wire than I new what to do with. You will end up with a very large bundle under the ignition switch cover. They do take quite a bit of time to install, mainly due the fact that you have to fish the wires from the battery or your accesory fuse box along side the sterio system. The only way I could get it through was to pull the sterio off of the bike, run the wires and re-install. If it was just wire you could probably fish it through but it has a large plug connector on the end. |

Not sure why my first rating was not posted but this is a continuation of that. As a refresher the controller was deffective by indicating five blue flashes. Voltage is not the issue. I will note the merchant has been helpful communicating my problem with their distributor. To catch up I recieved a second controller but what was strange the cord had been spliced together which I did not notice until installation. Went ahead and installed. Again there is a deffect in this controller as well. First off after a 45 minute ride I drove to the merchants store the grips were barely warm. Should note the outside temperature was 34 degrees. Also note when I stopped at a light the unit would shut down. Again refer to the instructions that if voltage drops below 12.3 the untit will shut down. I've checked and the bike is putting out 13.7 volts. The merchant has been notified and I mentioned if this connot be corrected I'm at the point of asking for a full refund but I will give Show Chrome one more try although I'm very reluctant and go with another manufacture. I would like to know who Show Chrome Quality Control in all this, why would allow a splice unit be released to a customer. I've worked for many aircraft company's and if I put out mechandise I would be put of business. Since I'm in complaining, anther complaint I have the buttons are hard to press with thick gloves. I would suggest using a rotary dial or slide switch as others have used. Someone in a previous comment said they were easy. I wonder what kind of gloves they used. |

Don't know if they are any good or not - I worked on trying to install them for two days bloody knuckles mixed with a bit of frustrations and could not find the plug on my 03 1800. Wingstuff was no help. They are still in the box if you want them. My ski gloves are working out just fine. They should not sell something that is not usable. I have purchased many items and have had no problems with anything else. But this has turned me off. |

I wanted a larger grip that was heated and had the ability to use the bar-end weights. This kit has those features and they get hot. Despite the inconvenience of the installation, I would do this upgrade again for the convenience of getting heat to my palms and fingers on those chilly mornings/evenings. Although these grips help, I will also be buying heated gloves and heated jacket as well. I ride in 30-50 degree weather and heated grips and leather gloves aren’t enough to keep the chill off. With the controller in Low or Medium, I notice a slight alternator whine through the radio if the volume level is half or more. I do not hear it when the temp controller is on high. Not a big deal for the amount I use the low and med heat. INSTALLATION: I received these Comfort Heated grips without the extensions required between the controller and heated grips. I called Big Bikes and spoke with Brandon. He said these kits are supposed to come with needed plug-and-play extensions. He was going to send me a set of the extensions but I couldn't wait so I ended up soldering/heat shrinking the needed length wires. Brandon claims that the included new throttle tube is required to be installed because the hot grips will weaken the factory original tube. That sounded logical to me so I proceeded to replace it. Just as I was ready to attach the new throttle tube, things went south with the throttle cable. It came unconnected at the engine’s intake throttle body and I spent another 2 hours tearing the bike down and back up to get to the cable end back in place! Luckily I was already planning to replace the air filter and needed the shelter to the air cleaner removed. This also allowed me to find the right side hidden power connector on my 2006 to plug this new grip controller into. Do a trial fit by sliding the grips onto the bar without glue and add the bar weights. Mark a spot once you like where the wires run and the grips are not touching the bar-weights or control housings. Remove the bar-weights, grips, put in glue and twist it back onto the mark. Let the glue cure for a day (or per manufacturers instructions). NOTES: 1) I like the size of the grip and the lengthwise rubber ribbing as it’s comfortable for my large hands. I had the Kury ISO grips before and found its blocks of rubber on those uncomfortable after a while. 2) These grips take 5+ minutes to warm up and another 5 minutes to get hot. They are great in riding weather down to 55 degrees. After that I don’t think they throw off enough heat even on high. I’ll be getting the heated gloves next. 3) My bike is an '06 and I was able to find the spare factory power connector on the right side to plug into. Some claim it was no longer there starting with 2006. 4) A few weeks later the Loctite Super Glue I used for grip glue let go. Do yourself a favor and pick up some of the special gel grip glue for heated grips that Big Bike sells separate from this kit. 5) WARNING: Keep some tension on both the throttle cables during throttle tube replacement. 6) I chose not to velcro the controller to the right side panel. I instead screwed the controller from the back of the panel using 2 screws holding the back of the controller together. |

These grips look great and work well. The controller is also a very good looking unit and easy to use. The reason for the 3 star and not a 5 is the fact that I had to lengthen the hot wire to the controller 8" and the wires from the grips 10". I thought these were going to be just plug and play. If the wires were lengthend by Show Chrome as noted above I would change my rating to a 5 star. |

Low rating because of difficulty to install. Took to Honda dealer and it was a three hour install. Wires from the grips had to be extended eight inches to reach the controller. Heated up ok but will see how good they are when it gets a bit colder. |
