First purchase after getting her 2003 Shadow. Very easy to install, and has been extremely reliable. When she rides "her bike" she enjoys listening to "her" music and still being able to communicate with me on the CB. |

The radio has good reception and output is as good as any Goldwing radio. Being able to listen to a MP3 player makes is really nice. The radio works great unless you happen to get caught in the rain. I have installed this radio on a Shadow and a Harley. I got caught in a sudden rain storm on the Harley and before I could stop to cover the radio with the little cover they provide, the radio was damaged. I previously had the cover blow off while driving, so you can't just keep the radio covered all of the time. It's installation is a little complicated because of routing the antenea from the rear of the bike. |

Installed onto our PC800 Honda along with the 2ft antenna (note my post on antenna installation) and used the Sony portable AM/FM (Walmart $30)walkman for the music input. Now we have communication & tunes too while riding the little (Mini Goldwing) bike. Only negative was and was not the unit itself. It was having to purchase 6 pin lower helmet cables, since we already own enough 5 pin (Goldwing)helmets/cords and stuff to start our own store. It looks as if J & M was truely wanting to consider customers, they would offer the option of using Goldwing harness adapter cables. Although, I understand marketing, why would they do that, when they can sell another cable or two with every CB2003? |

I installed on wife's Valkerye. It was a simple installation except that the chrome mounting bracket does not work on this bike. It is too short. The choke lever is in the way of the unit. I had to machine a spacer bar and lift bracket to get the unit off of the lever. By the picture the black bracket looks to be taller. It might work but have no personal knowledge. I ordered the 4' antenna. It is a little wimpy as it bends dramatically when going down the road. I took it off and installed a 2' antenna I had laying around. It was of a larger diameter and does not bow while traveling. Other than that it is a good unit. |

Installed on my wife's Aero 750 trike. Looks good and is a great addition as it has everything we need for CB and misc radio or GPS inputs to play through the headset in the helmet. Wire harness included was simple to install and has more than enough length for us to install the plugs anywhere we wanted on the trike. Drivers plug is on the handlebars and the passenger plug is next to the passenger seat. Looks like a professional install with little effort needed to install it. |

Installed this on the wife's new VTX (see profile pic). Price was good. Had used handheld (walkie-talkie style) cb mounted on handle bar of her old bike but the plug into the side kept devloping short ($50 part). So, bought this J&M. Install was straight forward. however, due to time, wired it direct to battery (will install power plate connect when time allows). Quality of xmit is very good (wind noise at speed, but that's a headset issue). Audio input gives great sound with J&M headset for her mp3 player and good receive sound for CB function. |

Update from my 9/14/2007 reveiw: This unit is still going strong. I purchased this unit for my '83 GL1100 and have since mounted it on a friends Victory Classic for one of our trips as I now have a GL1800 w/cb and he was wanting to buy it from me after. I have now mounted it on my son's '83 GL1100 and he loves it. I made a universal mount for it and also a universal mount for the antenna. As far as matching the antenna to the CB, SWR meters are cheap on Ebay and very easy to use. I know this isn't the correct forum for this but here's how right from J&M: Tuning the antennae for the JMCB 2003 with an SWR Meter Connect your SWR meter in-line as normal ,,,,, and make sure that the antenna is properly grounded to the frame of the motorcycle and that there are no shorts between the center conductor of the coax and the shielded portion ,,,,, ((these shorts can be caused by, among other things, the insulator pieces on the antenna mount itself being shifted to the side or installed improperly or in the wrong order )))) ,,,, When you are certain that all of those things are correct ,,,,,, you can then proceed to SWR adjustment ,,,,, To adjust the antenna, pull the top cap off, make a very small slice in the side of the black cover material, right at the very top,,,,, then reach down in there with a needle nosed pliers and pull out about 2” of the wire at a time ,,,, Clip it off and bend the end over the top of the antenna and replace the little cover each time you re-check the SWR readings ,,,, The idea is to get channels one and forty to have the same SWR reading, somewhere between 1:1 and 2.5:1 ,,,,,, that way all of the other channels will have an SWR reading at or below that level ,,,,,, If the SWR reading on channel one is lower than the reading on channel forty, you need to cut off more wire ,,,, if the SWR reading on channel 40 is lower than channel one, you have cut off too much wire ,,,, simple as that ,,,,, When you get the SWR’s where you want them ,,,,, squirt a little black silicone into the top cap, before you push it back on for the final time ,,,, |

This is a good product but ... I was surprised to find out that the intercom of the DU unit does not work while either rider is transmitting on the CB. We have to speak into the CB to transmit and then repeat everything through the intercom so we both know what was said. Bad Design flaw here. Then the upper and lower cables are very frail. We have had to replace two complete sets in the first year because they are not sufficiently strain relieved at the helmet and interconnection points. We have been careful while handling the cables, especially the second set, and careful while storing the helmets but they still get damaged to easily in my opinion. |

Very good product, but should have step by step instructions for matching the antenna with an SWR meter. Also, a low price SWR meter should be available for purchase on Wing Stuff as a related product to the radio or the antennas. |

Great communication unit.Instructions were very straight forward. and installation was pretty easy.More instructions on matching the antenna would have been very helpful, however the tech support at J & M walked me through this process. The sound clarity on the CB as well the aux unit(IPod) is incredible.Thumbs up for a great product |

Purchased and installed on my wife's 07' Shadow Aero 750. Very basic installation if you are familiar with basic disassembly of your bike to cable manage. Very nice unit! Basic instructions are provided because this unit can be used on any bike. For 07' Shadow Aero 750, suggested power connection is "rear light" circuit, which is the "Brown Wire" of three, that go into the small "White" connector, (other two connectors are Left and Right Turn Signals), located under the seat just above the battery and protected with a clear boot. Cable Management was a challenge on the Shadow Aero 750, due to very tight space between the fender well and rear tire for installing cable ties - but doable without removing rear tire. The J&M CB Antenna License Plate bracket twist angle was no where near even close to allowing the CB antenna to be installed fully vertical. Had the use a vise and grips to increase the "twist" in the bracket to compensate. Running the CB antenna cable and ground cable presented a challenge, because there is no place to feed these through the back light assembly of the Aero 750 and with the PL259 Connector "pre-attached" to the CB Antenna cable, you have to drill almost a 1" hole into the back fender just below the back light assembly to feed the cables through and run the wiring up the inside rear fender framing. Fortunately, that hole will be hidden by the license plate. Could have got away with a much smaller hole if the if the CB Antenna PL259 Connector was not already affixed to the RG59 coax cable. In hindsight, I should have cut the PL259 connector off, drilled a smaller hole through the fender, and installed a new PL259 connector on the antenna cable. I'll have to put some form of rubber grommet around the cables where they feed through the hole in the fender. I was expecting that the J&M Unit would have some form of Quick Connect/Disconnect, so the unit could be easily removed from the bike when not in use. That isn't the case. Once installed, it's there for keeps, unless you unbolt the unit from the handlebar mounting bracket and unplug the main wiring connectors, that are now under the gas tank! Overall - 5 Stars! Really Nice unit for our bike2bike comm and group ride comm, with added bonus of PTT for passenger (if you get the 2up kit) and audio input aux. jack and wiring - so she can listen to her iPod too through helmet headset. |
