I bought one of these in September 2015 and it ran great till last weekend when my bike died on me and left me sitting on the side of the road for 2 and half hours waiting for a tow truck. At first I thought it might have been my battery that was the problem as it was 3 years old at the time when I replaced to stock Honda alternator for this one. After buying a new battery for my bike on Monday 28/11/2016 I thought everything was good again only to have the bike die 2 days later and waiting again for another tow home. Not a happy Goldwing rider and I wish I had seen the other review before buy it now as I would have bought a stock Honda one instead. |

I have now had two Compufires in my 1500's and both failed within two years of installation. Both were repaired at a local shop as Compu-fire is no help. One has failed again and am now back to purchasing OEM units. Don't wast your money on the chineese models either. I figured that the heavier duty unit would last longer but not likely. |

I purchased one in 2010 and in 2013 (about 15,000 miles later) it failed leaving me stranded on the side of the highway. I reinstalled the OEM alternator and I was back on the road. I have tried to contact Compu-Fire 6 times. 3 by phone and 3 by email. They have not called or written me back. I've been working on repairing it. Looks like it's made from a Delco CS-121D alternator used on 2000 or so Saturn SC vehicles. I've troubleshot it to the voltage regulator. For the cost I am disappointed in the lack of customer support from Compu-Fire. I don't often leave reviews but did feel it is important that other riders know Compu-Fire does not seem to stand behind their product. |

I installed the Compufire on my GL1500 a couple weeks ago. What a difference! I have extra trunk and saddle bag lights added, the fog lights are on all the time as well as extra lights on the back of the trunk. When my wife and I would cruise with our heated vests one time, the engine stalled - batterie drained. With the Compufire, I can have everything plugged in and still show 14.6 Volts AT IDLE!!! When I hit the brakes, the headlight doesn't even dim anymore! - Problems solved. Now I will be able to add a trailer with power to spare. |

I bought this to get more reliability after having two OEM alternators fail. I installed the unit in 2009. It definitely charges better than the stock unit. But, the compu-fire failed and stranded me 250 miles from home on my last long distance trip - only 2 years and about 10K miles on it. This is actually worse reliability than the previous two stock units I had. I don't have lots of lights and run with the gel battery. I called Compu-fire and they said their units should last 5 years and admitted that mine failed "a bit early". Not much consolation after being stranded and now faced with the hassle of removing it, getting it repaired, and reinstalling it. So far for me the compu-fire setup has cost twice as much as stock and offers no improvement in reliability. I really don't care about voltages - I just want my bike to run when I need it. I could have bought two stock units and kept a spare for the cost and probably ended up with far greater reliability. It is easy to swap stock units on the road. Plus you can use the lower cost batteries with the stock alternators. I think the Compu-fire is basically a wasted investment for all those except folks who want to put on a light show or run heated outfits in winter. I will put the compu-fire back in after it is repaired and probably invest in a rebuilt spare stock unit to take along on long rides from now on. Maybe the repaired unit will last longer, but I will no longer assume the risk of alternator failure is less with the Compu-fire. |

To me this was a very easy install, just follow the easy and well written instruction and it will take only about a hour or 1 1/2 to complete the installation for someone with little technical knowledge like me. I did noticed right away a difference in the low speed idle which was very smooth and no chocking required, even when cold. Also my radio has less static and seemed to pick up stations a lot better. This was one of the best investments I've made to my 1999 1500se to date. |

I have owned my GW for about 2 1/2 years. I have always had to run the Choke a little to keep a steady idle. As soon as I installed this that was no longer necessary. It fit pretty tight but it does fit...just keep trying. This was a fantastic addition. Just hope I don't have to do it again. Price was a bit steep but considering the other alternator went bad a 1/4 mile from the Honda shop and was considering having it towed there which would have been an estimated 900 bucks to have them put in a stock one I figure I am ahead of the game. My GW has never run better since I've had it. |

Awesome product. It took me (a novice) about 2 hours to install with no issues or nightmares. My lights appear to be brighter and there is no drop in output at a stop. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who appreciates performance and is willing to pay for it. Dan Rivera - Tampa Fl. 98 Goldwing SE |

I've loaded my 95 Aspencade up with lights and accessories so I assume that's why I ate up the stock alternator. The compu-fire went right in, new bumpers and all. My advice - be sure and follow the directions about pre-instaling the wiring before you put it in. No problems with needing to shim it out. Perhaps they have that issue fixed. We'll see how long it lasts. I already have about 2000 miles on it with no problem. My only complaint is the price. I wanted a stronger alternator but this made me feel like I was taken advantage of. The instructions strongly recommend a sealed battery - a point not well made in the product description. |

great product but has failed after 15 months and 13000km and as would be expected at a time when is quite inconvenient. Stranded 400km from home day 1 of a 7 day AGM run. Lucky I had rebuilt the OEM and kept it at the ready in the compu-fire box. I have disassembled the compu-fire alternator and instantly found the problem. The wires from the stator to the slip rings have lost contact at the tabs at the base of the slip ring collar. You cannot see the solder points as they are soldered underneath and obscured from view. in fact you only notice the design error by riggling the collar and it then becomes apparent that there is no connection. This has happened due to vibration fatigue. They are very thin wires and work harden easy to the point of breaking. The alternator is a Delco Remy cs-131 and I have uploaded the full schematics and workshop instructions. They are available at https://www.scribd.com/doc/23641349/Service-Manual-Delco-Remy-CS-130 Enjoy. |
