2018 Gold Wing Tour Models ONLY.
Traxxion Dynamics has created a Suspension Decoupling Kit for the 2018 Honda Gold Wing Tour. This kit is an extremely inexpensive way to get a small improvement out of the electronically adjustable shocks on the Tour Model Wings ONLY. This kit should not be used on the Standard Model Wings.
The tour model has shock absorbers that have a damping adjustment that is changed when you change “Modes”. Selecting a different mode alters drivetrain performance characteristics, and also alters suspension characteristics. The stock shock absorbers have very soft springs. Putting the bike into “Sport” mode gives the shock absorbers the most damping control that they are capable of attaining.
With this kit, you will put your bike into Sport Mode, and then disconnect the shock adjusters and block off the connectors and the wiring harness. Then you can change into any mode you want, and your suspension will be functioning with the most damping control that it’s capable of without upgrading the shock absorbers.
To install the kit, see the installation video below. WARNING!!! It is important to note that putting the block-off connectors on the front shock absorber is VERY difficult. There is very little room to work, and it is likely to be VERY frustrating. In the end, the result will be worth it!
Raining for once in Ca but installed in less than 5 mins. Working construction for 30+ yrs has allowed me to see with my fingers so this install wasn’t that hard. Yes if you have big big hands the front shock will be some work but I had no problem. It did help to remove the abs plug in front of shock plug. Once rain subsides I will give these a test. I hope they work as well as advertised. I do love sport mode so keeping those shock specs on tour mode will be wonderful.
He was right about the front shock being a bear to get to. Test of ones patience. The caps do the trick. Love the bike that much more. Very planted now in the corners without the abruptness of sport mode-sport mode has its place but being a wing rider for about 35 years, sport is for the younger generation. Well worth the 30 bucks. I have passed 10K miles and now I have a new ride. Also, very DYI
I just finished the install and it is raining so more review to come. Install is straight forward. I suggest stuff a rag in the front end to catch the one piece you will drop 8 times and prevent it from ending up who knows where.
I opted for the GW tour over the GW for the very reason of the damping. Like he said, sport mode is very jumpy(for my riding). I want the sport suspension with the tour ride mode. For 30 bucks it may have been money well spent.
And we can't wait to show you how it's done!
