I added the rear fender extension on my 03 Wing and it also ended up cracking the caliper covers after about 30,000 miles. The extra weight of the extension vibrates the fender and everything attached to it. That’s why Honda’s fender stops where it does. Because that’s the weight and vibration the plastic parts can handle. I had to replace my rear fender and the side covers. A little expensive but without the extension I could have had damage from road debris in more expensive places. My friend had a rock or part of something that hit the front engine cover, cracking it, causing an oil leak, almost causing him to crash in the leaking oil, and leaving us stranded waiting for a flatbed to tow the bike 87 miles to a dealer. Even though I had to replace the other parts I still feel the extension was worth it. I have a 17 Wing now and have installed the fender extension on it. I guess it’s all a matter of what you’re willing to put up with. I’m sure after time I’ll have to replace them again. But I’ll take that over the alternative possibility.
