This lightweight aluminum luggage rack bolts to your trailer hitch's tongue. The rack measures 18" x 30" to accommodate most medium to large size coolers and duffel bags, and has holes around the edge for bungee cords or nets. Comes standard with LED rear running lights, brake lights, signal lights and a lighted license plate holder. While it is strong enough to hold a 250lb person, it is rated at a maximum of 35lbs capacity due to handling and cornering performance.
I ended up grinding a U shaped groove 1/2 into the top rail so that the wire from the light bar/plate bracket fit without crushing then wire. Next I drilled a 3/8 hole in the bottom rail directly under the wire and ran the wire through this hole to below the rack. Next because the wire was now on then inside of the rack and prone to damage I created a wire cover from aluminum scrap and screwed it to the inside back rail to cover the wire.
End of Story...The Rivco Trailer Rack is really well made but for the money it cost you should not have to perform surgery to make the light bar work!
Notice! The light bar/plate bracket shown on Wingstuff site is not the newer model that you receive today.
After contacting Rivco and sending pictures of my problem mounting the light bar/plate bracket their response was "push harder / bend the bracket to make it fit! Don't worry about breaking the plastic LED tail light assembly"
I will attempt this today and if the LED tail light breaks, I will return to hold mess to Wingstuff. You know when you spend $256.00 for a part, you should not have to retro fit anything. The design of this part is simply poor and untested by Rivco!
Received this rack in Nov 2013 and just now installed it to my 2010 GL1800 using the Kuryakyn hitch. The rack itself is made quite well but the supplied (newer style) light bar/tag holder is poorly engineered. Using the supplied spacers the tag plate simply will not fit. I have contacted Rivco to see what they offer and will report what I hear back.
I received this unit by UPS 4 days ago and boy was I surprised when I opened the box. The rack is now power coated and looks great. The plate holder is smaller in height and features run, brake and turn lights in LED. All in all I think I got more than I paid for. Once I have it installed on the bike and have use it I will again review it's usefulness. Good buy trailer and hello road trips.
Got this rack from a friend. Mounted it and less than a week was missing left blinker, must have left it at the golden gallon. Took a 2"x6" piece aluminum stock, with a 7/8 bit drilled and threaded both ends. remounted it and have yet to here it drag raising it up 6".
And we can't wait to show you how it's done!
