I'm very happy to write this review, out of all the accessories I bought for my 1800 wing, this is by far best single purchase I have ever made for my Gold Wing. Before I knew about this GL1800 soundgate kit, I just plugged my iPod into the aux input inside the left fairing pocket. That worked ok, but I had no way to control what songs were playing while riding. After researching other digital music players on the market, I realized they all worked, but all had the same limitations people talked about. For me, the apple iPod is the only and best way to listen and manage digital music. The fact this unit works so perfectly without a single flaw or problem, is worth three times what I paid for this device, I'm very satisfied. Seems soundgate took the extra time to really figure out the Honda Gold Wing audio system. Everything works as advertised, after installing the device I soon realized this is the only player on the market anywhere that does everything perfectly without a single problem!! Installation was simple, about 30 minutes, hardest part was taking the seat off and putting it back on, plugged right into the factory cd changer plug under the seat. After switching from iPod ( CD mode ) to FM radio, it actually paused the song on my iPod exactly to where it last left off when switching back to CD mode. Things I confirmed after install, it does charge my iPod when the bike is turned on, also found it turns off the iPod when turning off the bikes ignition and back on to start my bike. I decided to leave my ipod plugged into the bike now unless I want to take it out and sync more songs. The fact the packaging shows it's actually certified to meet apple specifications, tells me this company took no shortcuts in designing this product correctly. At this point, I'm doing something I had never imagined possible when I first bought my Gold Wing, listening to my entire digital music collection using stock handlebar controls. Don't know about you, but I have spent thousands of dollars on accessories for my 1800 Gold Wing, my bike looks great, but this is the best thing I ever purchased to raise the pleasure factor up so high for me and my wife for such a low cost. Maybe the folks at Honda could get rid of that old fashion expensive CD changer and make this device standard equipment. You sometimes hear the phrase must have item, this is the definition of that term. Highly Recommend!! John

I'm not rating this product yet but I had to put stsrs in to write this. Does anybody know if I hook this up to my I-phone and I'm listening to music, what happens when i get a phone call. How will I answer it if it's in the trunk. Right now if I'm listening to my I-phone in the car with my cassette tape adapter the phone will ring thru the speakers and stop the music, then I just pick up the phone and answer it. When I end the call I have to press the play arrow and it's back to the music. Hows that gonna work on the bike?

I'm givin' it 5 stars based on the reviews I've read and plan to buy one for my 2002 Goldwing. My con- cern is that, if I bought this unit, would I be able to hook it up to the Bazooka amplifier system made for 2001 to 2005 Goldwings? If not, I'll just get the Soundgate and won't worry about the Amplifier. Can anybody help? MEL MAN in LAPORTE

Ok folks, I don't actually own this unit. I'm sure you're all quite happy with it from the sound of your reviews. I prefer to keep all my music in mp3, and what I don't like about IPOD (apple) is that if I download music into it, it changes the file extension which I neither like or want. I hope J&M gets around to working out the bugs on their unit. I just wanna be able to plug in a thumb drive and listen to my music. Meanwhile maybe someone will come out with something else..

That is 5 stars X2!! If you like music while you ride, this is a must have. I installed it a week ago and have enjoyed it so much more than I did just an MP3 player plugged into the AUX cable. The controls work great even though the CD display doesn't change as you scroll through playlist - a minor problem to me. Also, the music sounds much better than with any of the other devices I've used with the aux cable. Don't hesitate to buy one these - it's great.

I bought this and it is a great device. Thanks to Mark on the tip about the RAD-TECH extension cable. The extension cable is on the RAD-TECH tech site or the Cable Jive and this site has cheaper shipping and it is the same cabel on both sites. I put it in the trunk and ran the cable up to my left handle bar which I have the Rider's Claw for my Ipod Nano 5th gen. The Ipod fits perfectly and I can control the Ipod from the bike or the Ipod itself saftely. With this device the quality of sound is terrific. A must buy

If I could give this more stars I would. This easily is the best thing I have bought for my bike... I had the CD changer, but it ate itself and I was dreading having to try and track down a reasonably priced unit. If you have installed the CD changer, you can install this blindfolded. I did find though that the harness was a little shorter than I would have liked as it didn’t give a lot of room to secure the unit in the trunk. The cable connecting to the iPod was long enough to do what I wanted. There seems to be no functional difference between the two operating modes. One mode you can see what the iPod is doing, the other you can’t. Once you get your playlists sorted out you are golden.

This is a great product. I wanted to run the connection for my iTouch to the front compartment of my 2009 GL1800, but, I have an airbag and got a little nervous poking a clothes hanger under the fairing when trying to find a path for the wires. Consequently, I ran the wires to the trunk and placed the unit in the compartment designed for the cd player. I could have used about another six inches for the hot connections from the bike to the unit because the unit just barely makes it to the trunk after fishing the wires under the seat. I had to drill a hole in the trunk to run the wires, so I just need a rubber grommet now. I chose not to place the unit under the seat for fear of exposing it to moisture from rain, washes, humidity, etc. Now, I just plug in my iTouch and go. It sounds better than am, fm, and xm and it charges the unit! Very easy to install because the bike is prewired. The unit has extra wires you won't connect because it is designed to fit some cars as well as Goldwings.

Until now, I'd be having to put my iPod in my jacket pocket (or, when it needed charging, in the left fairing pocket), and wearing the earbuds under my helmet. Plugging into AUX made tunes sound like ____, and having no ability to reset when the end of a playlist was reached was a pain. Bought just after Christmas, and installed on "Silver" last week. Wow! Clean installation, great sound now through the OEM speakers, and the ability to change tracks on the radio preset buttons and tracks/volume via the existing LH grip control tune and vol... TERRIFIC! Great little unit. Use of the #3 or #4 preset buttons for changing playlists is a little wierd, but not too bad -- and certainly not enough to drop a star. Can't go wrong with this! I'm a nearly 365-day/year rider here in WA state, and love my LD rides to MT, UT, OR and beyond... So, looking forward to my first multi-day trip with this!

I've been looking for the perfect system to keep feeding me music for years. Do you know how quick you go through six CDs? The ipod on the aux is OK, but there's no control. I ordered this last week, and it arrived in no time flat - even down here in Oz! Installed easily, and I think I have finally found my solution. Good gear!

Edit to my review: That was TRUNK, not DRUNK. And I forgot the best part also not mentioned in ads. You get much better/louder playback than through the aux wire.

My wife bought me this for Christmas at my request.I absolutely recomend the product and would buy it again in a heartbeat. While in a perect world it would display more information on the screen, It does what it says and more.)Wingstuff does not go into all the fuctions the radio buttons add for repeats etc). Hookup is a breeze, but installation a bit more involved. Since I use this with my iphone, storing in the drunk was not an option. My only complaint is that, with the unit in the trunk well and the device going say in the left fairing pocket, the wire is too short. It will reach but just barely. I ordered a Radtech sheilded cable extension and now can put the iphone in the pocket, or on my RAM mount so I can see the display. Again, great product. worth the price just because you can shuffle or skip tracks and lists with gloves on!

I agree with everybody else....this is a GREAT PRODUCT. I did create playlist on the ipod so I can use radio buttons 3/4 to toggle up and down through the list (no limit on play list). I put 99 songs in each that way on my '03 I know I randomly played all the songs in that folder. I think on the '06 and newer the count in the dash display goes higher than 99 before it reverts to a 1 reading.

Bought this for myself for Christmas. I deserved it. Installed it the day after and seems to be working great. I live in Utah so the bike is somewhat put away for the winter. So, other than trying it in the garage haven't really been able to test it out on the road. What I'm hoping to gain, and by other reviews it seems like I will, is to hook my ipod up and not worry about turning it off and on everytime I stop the bike and that it will keep the charge up. So far, I'm glad I didn't spend the $600.00 clams for the CD player. If the temps here in Utah could just get to about 40 degrees I'd take it for a ride.

If you love listening to music on your Goldwing, this product is a must have. I used to listen to my iPod through the aux source. I became very tired of not having the ability to skip a song without stopping the bike, pulling out the iPod, removing my gloves and then skipping to the next song. If you are into music you know you have to have the right songs playing when you are riding. If one of my wife’s Barry Manilow songs comes up on the iPod, I think I may have to crash rather than having to listen to the entire song. A couple of things I was pleasantly surprised about this product that I didn’t know when I purchased it is that it will charge an iPod when the bike is running. It will also shut off an iPod when the ignition is turned off. The iPod doesn’t keep running when you are off the bike. You can go to lunch and get back on; it’s on the same song when you left it. This product is a simple install. I secured my iPod in the trunk where it’s locked up. I don’t have to mess around taking my iPod off and putting it back on the bike each time I stop. My Goldwing is a 2004 and it doesn’t have the satellite system. There is not a display of what song is playing. I really don’t care about this because this is my music and I already know what song is playing.

Great product and works as advertised. Installation was quick with only (2) connections necessary to the existing factory harness and the unit I placed under the seat. My IPOD is in the trunk so routed the IPOD interface connector into the trunk via the opening used for the Navigation harness. Very clean installation!

Works as advertised. Makes my ipod Nano act like the CD changer. Easy to install, and the ipod Nano is velcro'd in the rear of the trunk, out of the way of everything.
