I installed the unit on my 2008 GL 1800 (Navi & Airbag). Instead of drilling a 1 1/4" hole for the plug to go through the plastic wall, I pulled the pins out of the white plug using a 1 mm wire (paperclip). This allowed me to drill a 10 mm hole instead of the 32 mm hole. A grommet (from Radio Shack) protects the wire properly. The only flaw is that the unit displays only 6 CDs on the dash display. I had 9 folders on the SD card but # 7-9 would display "No CD" blinking on the display and driving me nuts. After reducing the number of folders on the SD card to 5 (plus the root directory), it is now woking fine. The sound is inredible!

Bought this player a few months ago, install was straight forward and took about a half hour. Loaded all my favorite digital music in folders just as previous reviewers explained, and the unit for me has worked great without a single problem. Just being able to flip thru all my songs using my stock handlebar controls makes me want to ride my wing even more. Very satisfied and would buy again.

After reading all reviews,I was concerned, but ordered anyway. install took about 45 minutes.Works great so far. You do need to consider another $26 to buy the 8G SD card at Wally World. Still no surprises.

I am happy with the unit that my wife purchased for me as a gift. What I am not happy about, is that she paid the full retail price of 179.95 and now you are selling the same item for almost half of that. It has only been 3 months since she bought it and it hasn't been on the market very long at all.

I just installed the J&M Honda GL1800 Digital Music Player/Change on my Honda Goldwing 2008. The install went great, I'm using a usb thumb drive,I'm able to play music from all the created cd1-cd7 folders to store my music into. I still use my IPOD and whne I click back to my CD on the console the same song is still playing. I read alot of reviews maybe I just lucked up I've been using is for about 72hrs. with out any problems or complaints. Injoy George Hampton Jr.

I must admit to being apprehensive after reading some of the other reviews, but as luck would have it, I'm very pleased. Install took about 1/2 hour, and the music loading is not rocket science, depending on how much of that stuff you've done in the past. It does seem to keep playing even when I switch back to FM, but that's not near as aggravating as having to put out almost a grand in cash to have a CD changer. VERY HAPPY customer here.

I just installed the Digital Music Player and I love it. It took me about 45 mins to do and so far so good. I have had no problem with the unit staying on after I turn off the bike. The unit power light goes out. I set up the folders like Paul said on a 4 GB SD card and everything worked. For 99.99 I would buy it again.

I tried to install and it was not plug and play - did not work with the 2008 Goldwing Airbag. Called Mfg for service and they are only open 8:30 to 5:00 M-F (I only wish I had those hours.) I had Hank (my bike) tested to make sure it was not a wiring issue or switch problem. I send inquiry e-mails to the company no answer. So J&M does not seem tot have customer support except during normal work hours and they don't answer e-mail.

The first challenge with the JMDM-GL18 digital music player was to populate an SD memory card or USB thumb drive with music. With a large selection of music to choose from. Several weeks ago Rick Arnaldo from Cycle Giant contacted me about a software application that I wrote solving the problem of populating the JMDN-GL18 in the required format. The software populates the SD/Thumb drive with exactly 99 tracks per CD. My 2008 Goldwing supports CD0 thru CD9, that's 990 songs. With his permission, I'm posting the URL to my home DSL site so that you can download a FREE trial copy of this software for your evaluation. This is a TRIAL VERSION, so it does have limited features, but if it meets your satisfaction, then Rick and I will make it available through Wingstuff/CycleGiant. http://207.207.72.42/motorcycle/virtualcdplayersoftware.htm

I completed the installation today, and found it to be really easy. In total, it took me about 45 minutes. Biggest deal was installing the rubber grommet for the wiring harness! Unit works great, sound quality is outstanding. Follow the instructions regarding music/file downloading and you're there.

Installation was not hard but the programming of the SD card so it would be recognized was something else. As other have stated the player shows to be playing when I selected one of the other systems but it does not interfere with the operation of the other units. J&M have really come up short with this unit and it operation on any Goldwing and I can understand why there has been a rapid price drop. I set my unit on the side wall of the trunk so I can release the SD without having to open the small lower compartment. Now for the positive side, the sound quality is very good and the actual controls work without any flaws.

Ok, after running this device for a month now I have to agree with several of the other reviews, this unit does not stop playing when switching over to fm, cb, or any other audio function. I am running this on a 2009 Wing. Having installed yet another one on a friends bike the same problems happened again. Also the unit will continue to when the bike is turned of. I had contacted both Wingstuff and J&M tech support and had been told by both, that this is a known issue. J&M states it is a problem with Honda, their fix is to just unplug the unit when not in use. I have already been stuck once with a dead battery due this unit and have since removed it from the bike. I would use CAUTION with this device and if you lose functionality with your audio controls it is due to a low battery which was caused by the unit.

I loaded my music to an SD card as instructed before the unit arrived at my house. Install went super easy. Plug fit perfect. Grommet took 2 tries to pop in. Unit operated perfectly on my 2008 Navi. CD display works just as it's supposed to. The music continues to progress when I switch to FM mode as the others have stated. $99.00 and it works off the handle bar controls, this is a bargain in my opinion. No more thumbing through poorly recieved radio stations when on a trip. My favorite songs any time I want them. SWEEET

On my 2008 GL1800 Premium Audio package the playback quality is great. All the hand controls function flawlessly. Install was pretty strait forward but the instruction manual was a little vague on the music formatting. Refer to other reviews for the best instructions on this matter. The largest complaint I have; as others have indicated, is that the music doesn't stop when you switch to another source. Not a bad product for $99.00 but has real potential to be better had J&M done a little more design work.

The product does not seem to work with the 2008 Airbag unit. The 2008 airbag unit seems to have some differences and it doesn't not plug and play like J & M advertises. Tery to call J&M and you find no customer service except 9 to 5 M-F. I don't know about you, but I actually work more hours than they are open.

I've been using this product for about 3 months now. Reading other user reviews I felt I had to update mine. First of all I think J&M rushed a product that wasn't ready for the masses. I'm a little ticked that the price is now $99.00 and feel I should get some of my money back for the headaches this product has given me. I still stand that the instruction manuel sucks beyond words and I'm disappointed J&M hasn't taken responsibility for this. My only real gripe is that the music won't stop playing when switching between FM and CD. I don't know how one of the other users is accomplishing this but I wish mine did. As far as naming the songs, I just number them 1-99 in each folder since the wing's display won't show the song anyway. Bottom line I suppose is that for $99.00 you get a decent player that you can use through your handlebar controls. If I had to do it all over again I would step up tho the iPod control for the wing. Bottom line is that I'm disappointed in J&M and will hesitate to buy anything from them in the future. Buy at your own risk... 3 stars at best.

I will not grade the product because I did not buy this one. I just want others to give it some time and a little help with it. Do not worry about formating them in fat 32 everything is formated in fat32 now days in fact do not format them at all. make folders starting with CD2, CD3,CD3, and so on. With 8GB you should be able to go to CD99 and 99 songs. One song must be in the regular directory on its on it replaces CD1 folder. Ok thats the just of it now on the bike once you set the bike to the CD player and your chip is in. If you have sound then your on the right path. You have volume control and you can change the song. One thing though you have to hold the channel button for about 3 seconds you will hear beep two let up and that will change the cd2 to cd3 and so on. Good luck. This is a awesome product and better the over $600 for a CD player that last only a few years. PS. Make sure everything works before the set goes back on.

Had been looking at this J&M digital music player and decided to order one after doing some research first. Here's my experience, installation was simple, I'm not a mechanic and it took me about 30 - 45 minutes start to finish. I set up the folders just like the other reviewers described (Thank You) and it worked flawlessly. The fact that I can now listen to my entire digital music collection and control from my handlebars is like dream come true for me. I'm very happy with this player and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. My experience has been very good, it works and sounds great!! Ronnie
