The back rest is comfortable and does help on long runs. I had to send it back due to one of the locking cam froze but Wingstuff made good and shipped a replacement. I also have to use the middle position when the wife rides because the bar rubs her legs. The only thing is when you do a clean up remove the backrest and check for surface rust located where the cam goes through the bracket it come off with a little chrome cleaner.

I like the back support while riding. I do need to fold it down to get on and off the bike to make it easier due to my short legs. All in all a great product. I do recommend it, but also say keep it lubed at the hinge point or you'll see rust.

Installed the backrest this morning, there were no directions but who reads them anyway, the installation was very straight forward and took all of 20 minutes. I found the middle position to suit me best and after a 3hr ride this afternoon, a found this product to be very strong and ridgid in the mount. Great addition for comfort!

I bougth this Back Rest against the advice of a friend. Glad I didn't listen. I love the comfort and versatility. Kuryakyn makes a good product.

There are no problems for him. Very comfortable, but after a period of time should be sprayed a little oil in place of the sizing

I enjoy my Kuryakyn Backrest. It's just at the right height for my stature. I'm 5'9"..and 270lbs. I'm a big guy, I know it. The backrest is comfortable, but I do wish it was just a tad stiffer. I like it well enough to include it on every ride I do alone.

Was getting ready to purchase this backrest when a member of the Goldwing Club I belong to sent out a message that a friend was selling this backrest and he had it for 10 months. I had one of these on my 88 GL1500 and loved it. I bought it fairly cheap and installed it in about 30 minutes. So far no problems and it helps take pressure off my back. My wife liked the one I had on my 88 GL1500 and I have yet to have her on my 2008 since installing the the backrest last week. Will give an update if she has any problems.

I bought this last summer and returned it to Wingstuff 2 days later. It was difficult to install, the mounting hardware didn't quite line up and I could not find a position to satisfy. I rode approximately 1 mile before turning around and removing it. Changing positions is difficult at best. My passenger also immediately noticed the bars were in her way and made the seat uncomfortable for her. I also ordered some Kuryakyn highway pegs at the same time. Maybe its just the company but those pegs didn't seem to fit quite right either but I kept them.

Looks really good on the bike and all the components seem well built. I curently use it on the 3rd setting because the 2nd setting id too upright. Would be perfect if I could have more adjustment and set it between the two. I am 6 foot 175 lbs and only find the 3rd setting comfortable.

Ditto to other rider comments. I find this backrest very satisfying ONE UP ONLY! As I am one of those fortunate riders who often has the benefit of a co-rider I have to cater to her every whim...
Here's the problem - The side rails that insert into the struts permanently fastened to the seat will get into your co-rider's space and chafe the inside of her legs. Even at the most forward position it will be bothersome to her.
So I'm stuck with removing it every time she rides with me and removing it is not fun either. The unit is "springy" and you must turn a dial, pull one side out, go to the other side and turn a dial, then pull it out, (while worrying that the other side may be pulled into your seat or plastic parts). Sometimes you really have to torque on it to get it to come loose. It will irritate you putting it on or taking it off, (usually easier to put on).
Again, very nice and probably superior in comfort and support for one up. But your passenger will hate it.

Fit and finish are good but found out later after riding that not the best backrest for me. My wife says the inside of her legs are uncomfortable after a short ride. also hit a big dip in the road and bent the piping holding the backrest this is the same piping that irritates my wife's legs. It did not bend much but non the less it changed my seating position. This is a good backrest for a single rider only.

I was recentley hit from behind whilst moving off from behind! the force of the impact bend my backrest by about 40 degrees from it's upright position, if I did not have the backrest, I would have been sent over the back of the bike and potentially suffered damage to my back, though not the obvious reason in buying a back rest, a definate advantage and safefy device in case of a rear end shunt! Would not ride without one!

I'm short,5'6", so maybe that is why this backrest works well for me as a rider. However, my wife, as a passenger, does not like it at all. She complains that the backrest frame makes her keep her legs out too far to be comfortable on longer rides. I guess she is right since the frame does indeed seem to do this. The answer may be to mount a different style backrests...one without a frame. Anyway, I found the install to be time consuming but pretty straight forward. The unit also seems well made. Take it for what it is and how you think your passenger will like the riding style created by the wide frame.

This backrest works nice for those long hauls but i wish the settings went a little further back, may opt for the utopia backrest, it seems to get alot of good feedback.

I love the rest but had some problems with install. Frame is aluminum and I didn't put the bike on the center stand and I stripped the threads on on the left side. Had to drill them out and use helacoils to repair. Turned a 15 minute job into 3 hours. Great product just be careful lining up your bolts as you can strip them out fairly easily.

I have put many miles on this back rest under a variety of climatic conditions. In warm climate, it's fine; wearing layered clothing for cold weather riding, you will sit either on your gas intake or on your radio control panel. I would not buy it again.
