I had this installed on my GL1800. Works great by getting others attention. Wish the Flashes were just a little bit faster. But still, it does the trick!

Just had dealer install Backoff XP. Unit only flashes. Will not finish the cycle with the constant on. Tried both modes. The repeat and one time only cycle. Will flash only with no constant on in either mode.
Called the manufacturer. Seems the GL1800 draws 11 amps with all brake lights. XP unit has a built in failsafe cut off switch at 10 amps. It would be hardware upgrade to fix the unit. Then Why sell to Goldwing owners?
The original Back Off will work up to 15 amps but has no failsafe. It could get too hot if you run too much amperage through it.
They gave me 2 options.
1. Upgrade to LED taillights. They do not pull as many amps and the unit will cycle as it should.
2. Run to the upper brake lights only. The bottom lights will light up when brake applied but only the top/trunk lights will run through the flash/constant on cycle using the once only mode or the repeat mode. Should still be sufficient to be seen. The unit needs to be mounted in the trunk for this.
My option 3 was to just take it back for a refund. Still thinking on that.

Not sure if its working or not. Wiring problem and I've tried everything. Considered call their tech help. A friend installed this on his and other's bikes. I'll have him take a look before I consider it defective. I know it looks great when working but not there yet so the 4 rating.

After reading the other reviews, I just had my dealer install it. Works great, really gets your attention when I brake. I imagine it drives the people behind me nuts in stop-n-go traffic.

Excellent product for safety. Priced right... HOWEVER, this company does not have a clue how to install their product on a Gold Wing. NOR do they care. VERY VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS. Their awful directions are useless. I believe you can now find help from the message boards and I do highly recommend installing one. But This Company Needs to get the message to actually WRITE instructions for the Wingers!!
Now for the real world lesson. Someone should knock this thing off and put these people out of business. I'm so disappointed we all continue to hand them our $$ and they can't even write a simple one-page set of installation instructions.
Bottom Line: buy one, get some friend or on-line help to install and you will be safer. Don't be naive to think - regardless of how handy you are - you can simply get the box and plug and play. It is a half a day translating their diagram and how that might apply to your GW. Geez.....
ALSO, don't bother taking off your seat. you can rig it up right in your trunk by identifying the brake wires, hook up and then double stick tape the box in your trunk.
Surely Kisan or Electrical Connection can make one of these AND some instructions for Wingers.

I finally got this working well. I am pleased with results but the installation instructions were basically non-existant for Goldwing, so I had to make it up. (Hence only 4 stars)
The result was that I connected it to the lower (main) brake lights only. I was able to install it using connectors and didn't have to cut any wires. That way, if it should go bad or something better comes along, I can simply remove it and restore the bike to like it was before. Maybe I should put my solution in writing for others.

Make sure you have the correct version of this modulator if you are mixing LED light and incandescent light bulb.
I've had this for 3 years on my other bike and it works great.
I only installed it on the top brake lights toa GIVI 52 top case because I did not want to alter the factory brake lights.
That may be illegal in some stated, but I was concerned about the unit or my wiring failing and leaving me without brake lights while on a tour.
BTW save yourself my headaches when you install this device. Throw those tap a lite connectors away and solder everything. I installed this thing several times before I finally just soldered the wires in place.
The tap a lites worked fine for a while, but then would fail or become intermittent. It was really aggravating. I had problems on other devices that used these tap a lites too and finally solved those problems with a $3 soldering iron and $1 solder from the local dollar stor.
You've been warned or perhaps it's just me.
Modulator works great. I choose the 5 rapid flash mode and then it stays on until I release and reapply the brakes.
5 stars. For the new Wing I choose the Wig Wag version of this device.
I've seen that from behind a Wing and it seems even more attention getting that this device.

Easy to install. I have it wired to flash the high (3rd) brake light in my spoiler. Those who ride with me indicate it's a real attention getter.

I had a friend add this to my spoiler brake light along with adding kit to convert the spoiler to a running light. WOW! what a big difference in the light and how folks stop behind you.

Added this to the spoiler brake light at the same time as the kit to convert the spoiler to a running light. Made a big difference in how closely people stop behind. The flashing spoiler brake light seems to make them stop further back. Installation is fairly easy and straightforward.

Great product and fairly easy to install. Product works as designed. Better installation instructions would have raised my rating to 5 stars

Instructions are generic, and not specific to any motorcycle or car. That's to be understood since it is a universal product.
Installed just fine, but you either need a wiring schematic or someone who knows where the wire is.
By the way, on the 2008 GL1800 it's a Green wire with a red stripe coming out of Connector #31, which is one of the 2 large gray connectors under the seat. It may be different on different models or years. Mine is a Non-ABS, Non-Airbag, with comfort, audio and Navigation.

This is a great product except for the fact that it can't be installed on GL1800 systems without modifcation. The unit is rated for 10 amps & as another user stated, it is not rated to handle the 6 brake lamps on an GL1800. I installed LED lights in the 2 inside positions of the trunk lights which lowered the load well below the 10 amp limit. This way it runs all of the brake lights plus the spoiler LEDS.

Great invention every rider should have one on their bike.Wiring instructions could be a little more detailed, but easy to fit once you work it out, otherwise would have given 5 stars.
