You may have heard of the "Hurt Report". This was a study - the most comprehensive of its kind, ever - of nearly 5,000 motorcycle accidents, by researcher Harry Hurt. Lessons learned from the Hurt Report have helped manufacturers, state governments, and safety instructors make the roads safer for motorcycles - but there are still risks.

There are several findings summarized from the overall report, the scariest of these findings are:

Approximately three-fourths of these motorcycle accidents involved collision with another vehicle, which was most often a passenger automobile.

The failure of motorists to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the predominating cause of motorcycle accidents. The driver of the other vehicle involved in collision with the motorcycle did not see the motorcycle before the collision, or did not see the motorcycle until too late to avoid the collision.

It is crucial that we make ourselves visible to motorists. I know of no better way to ensure that you are seen than to use a headlight modulator.

Kisan pathBlazer modulators are designed to be easy to install on all sorts of motorcycles. Most bikes simply require removing the cable from the back of the headlight bulb, plugging the pathBlazer into the bulb, and then plugging the cable back into the pathBlazer. A daylight sensor, attached to the module by a cable, then just needs to be fastened such that it can see the sky (in order to turn off modulation at night).

Headlight modulators are legal throughout the United States, on the basis of federal authority. No state law may usurp this authority. They are also permitted throughout Canada. Installing a pathBlazer can dramatically improve your odds of safe riding.

As mentioned, these are permitted in Canada. I found a DOT Web site on "Headlight Modulators" and have a few printed copies stating such in my trunk, just in case I should be questioned about them some day, but so far so good. Oncoming traffic really see you coming.

I love this product. It does help make you seen. It was difficult to install because it tough to get the plug to go into the light by feel only. Be presistant! Be sure to remove the vent switch on the left side, that will give you more room to reach in. It probably took me 2 hours to install. Most all of that time was trying to plug in the modulator.

Love the product! I feel the same way as everyone else does. I just installed this on my 2008 Goldwing with airbag and the headlights just blinked 3 times, but wouldn't modulate. After a long time of troubleshooting, I decided to switch the modulators around and that fixed the problem. I pointed both wire connector ports to the inside of the motorcycle and the daylight sensor I mounted to the left of the foot warmer lever. The lever for the windshield did not obstruct the sunlight. Thanks to a previous review, I used that spot. If anyone wants pics of the install or tips, I can provide them fireshy@gmail.com

It is a BEEEOTCH to install even with small hands but with some time (not the 15 min. they say, more like 1-2 hours if you have not this before) you can do it. The directions are poor but reading all the reviews and comments actually help. All said it is worth it and good luck.

I love having this extra safety feature. I try to use it sparingly only when I'm the lead bike with no one ahead of me but switch it on when I see cars at intersections or with no one ahead of me on 2 lane roads. I really enjoy being seen and having other vehicles wait a little longer for me to get by.
Installation is something else. Left side is just short of impossible. Be persistant! It'll be worth your time.
