Deer Alert Hornet Electronic Deer Avoidence Kit

Deer are the leading animal causing human deaths in this country. Regular whistles proved marginal in defense in preventing dangerous collisions with deer and relied on vehicle speed for consistent operation. Hornet system is far more effective due to electronic operation regardless of speed. Available in Chrome or Black on drop down.

Additional Product Info

Note - Optional Motorcycle Wire Harness available seperately and shown as Related Product at bottom of page. Produces sound pressure of 120 db, and under most circumstances is very resistant to contamination. (Regular inspection and cleaning is recommended however.) As with any accessory, its performance is only as good as its installation. Proper placement is essential for maximum performance. Detailed instructions make for an easy and effective installation. There is no substitute for driver awareness, but the Hornet is the best defense against a deer collision available to date. The Hornet includes various universal mounting brackets, basic hardware and a switch. A separate motorcycle wiring kit is available and includes a harness and switch specifically designed for use on a motorcycle; while not required, it will make the installation much neater. Kuryakyn P-Clamps work great on many motorcycles to assist in mounting the Hornet to frames or engine guards. Universal fit on 12-volt motorcycles.

I just bought this product about three weeks ago and just hooked it up to see if the I could hear it. To my dismay it was loud and clear. I don't see how anyone could actually rider for any period of time with this thing whistling. Some of the advertising claims that the human ear can not hear the frequency that the alert emits, which is obviously a false statements. I guess nothing replaces good headsup riding and common sence. This was a waste of money in my oppinion.

I had this alert installed on my wing when I bought it 3 years ago, but put over 20,000 miles on the bike without seeing a single deer. Until yesterday. I was the only vehicle on a curvy country road, so I had my high beams and fog lights on--plus the deer alert. I saw the deer standing by the side of the road early enough to slow from 55 to 15-- but the deer was obviously aware of my presence. He looked up at me and casually walked away, moving away from the road. I don't know if the avoidance kit alerted him to my presence, but it sure seemed to help. Well worth the peace of mind.

Last September I was 940 miles into a 1500 mile ride when I hit a deer at night cruising up a dark Colorado canyon. By some miracle the bike didn't go down, even though the deer did... permanently. The only damage to the bike was a destroyed front fender and the right fork/caliper cover...(not counting the tufts of deer hair I was pulling out of nooks and crannies for a couple of days!)

The very next week I installed this little sucker. Fortunately, no more deer encounters. Whether this is because of the whistle or just luck, I don't know... BUT, I sure feel a lot better having this thing on the bike. Even if this whistle improves your odds by a few percentage points, don't you think it's worth it. I do.

Trust me on this... hitting a deer on a motorcycle is not something I recommend as a way of increasing longevity! If you ride where the deer (and the antelope) play... put this on your bike...PLEASE!

After installing this on my wing, seems all my neighborhood deer are staying away, which is unusual for around here. So i can't tell if it works well or not, and i've had it on for weeks. Either,it's working well, or i've just been lucky !! I'll update as i log more hours. And it does whine fairly loud, but don't notice once under way !!

Just added to my '07 wing. I used a chrome "p" clamp to attach to the lower engine guard. I strongly recommend using the wiring harness that is available. I 'tapped' in to the power using the power socket under the left fairing pocket and attached the adhesive switch on the underside of the dash cowling in easy reach. Heading to Yellowstone this summer.....we'll see if it helps.
