J&M Rear Speaker Upgrade 2006+ Newer GL1800

Well... I hate to do this, but my apologies in advance to Wing Stuff & J&M. My order arrived today, right on time and these ARE very nice looking speakers with bigger magnets. I take my reviews seriously, so here is my experience. I have an 06 wing with the premium audio. The sound is very good but I am an upgrade kind of guy and I am always looking for BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER. Based on the reviews here I thought these rear speakers were the ticket. WRONG! I experimented with sound, volumes, bass, different songs ect. and these speakers don't fly. I consider myself a self made audiophile and I care how my music sounds. Honda got it right, leave your speakers alone if they are not blown. The woofers in these J&M's distort very quickly because there is no back pressure in the speaker boxes. The factory speakers have a stiff woofer surround that keeps the woofer under control and distortion to an absolute minimum. You will not get any decent bass out of this size speaker in the enclosure that it's mounted in period. It's the enclosure... not the speaker. In order to make your rear factory speakers sound their best you need an mp3 player with an equalizer built in. Honda has a lot of mid range built in so you can hear it well at 70 mph. This is good at 70, but sounds plastic and fake sitting still. That's my biggest gripe. I don't know how else to describe it other than... the speakers sound like they are in a small plastic box. Guess what, they are! Knowing this, I also went to my local stereo shop and bought some of this new sound proofing, foil backed, rubbery stuff they use for car audio installs. It comes in a 12"X12" sheet and I cut strips and shapes and basically lined the inside of the speaker box as best I could being careful not to close the drain holes in the bottom. I have to say this worked very well! It removed most of the plastic sound and made the factory speakers sound much more natural. I ordered the front and rear speakers. The rear speakers are going back. Based on what I learned so far, When I pull the front speakers, I am going to cover what ever I can with the sound material and try that first before I open the J&M's. I'll let you all know how it turns out!

Just installed mine, took me about twenty minutes or so. The sound is excellent, well worth the money.

sound great, much better quality than stock speakers... a lil more difficult to install than front but still fairly simple. did mine while installing the passenger arm rests and driver backrest....

The install is easy. The sound is great. Regarding the price of the original Honda speakers that is the good buy.

I noticed an increase in quality, and the install was easy too. The center of the cone is aluminum not paper like the stock and the magnet on the rear speakers is bigger, all signs of better quality.
