i installed this on my 2002 GL1800 and it works like a charm! The instructions were sketchy but once installed I can't imagine not having one. A great safety device and friends that rode behind me said it really grabbed their attention!

Ifound the wires I thought that would work but when I hooked into them they didn't do anything but light up and stay on. I didn't cut the wire I just wraped the wire from the wig wag around them. If I would cut the wire in the harness would they then do what it should if I have the right wires? This would be the only thing I haven't tryed with this group of wires. Two green with gray spots two green with yellow line. One hot all the time with key on. As you can tell I'm lost help

I will say the wiring is pretty straight forward red/white, white/red to brake light bulb orange or yellow to brake light switch and black to ground.
I own a gl1800. Here is how I connected mine. I did not want to alternate between right and left as I thought that might confuse someone that I was turning??? I hooked mine up to alternate between inner and outer trunk brake bulbs.
To make the connections I soldered longer coded wires to each of the leads to make a harness. I then decided that I hate to remove the seat and removed the lower trunk trim only. You just have to remove the trunk side mouldings, and seven trim screws to loosen the lower trim. Then pull out gently and back and you have access to the trunk taillight wiring. I used the double sided tape to mount the module under the right tail light inside the trunk. This puts it out of the weather and you can run your harness out through the trunk latch opening. Cut and pull back the tape on the wiring harness directly under the taillight. I had my young bride of 33 years hold the brake while I cut ONE of the green with red trace wires to each sides brake light. That let me know if I cut the inner or outer circuit without removing the lamps. I then wired the lamps as directed. I used the cut brake light wires on one side as my brake on circuit. I then cut the other wire on each side and wired the opposite side of the module. I stripped back wiring coating from one solid green wire without cutting the wire. I soldered my ground wire to this circuit. I heat shrank all my connections and reinstalled the trim. Now my lights alternate inner/ outer then blink all four and then stay on. I love it!
I had checked with local law enforcement and they were not keen on the idea of alternating side to side, even if they were not sure it was illegal in Iowa. Good Idea to check first.

Bought two units, installed one yesterday on Brother's Wing. Although end result of making bike more visable at stops was accomplished, resulting experience is unlike ANY other I have read. First, off comes seat. Locate factory installed module for brake lights. So far, very easy. Upon choosing "flash pattern 2", orange wire needs to be installed on "hot". However, of the 4 total wires on the OEM module, one was "hot", one was "ground", ONE was "brake illumination", and the 4th did "nothing". It's becomes more odd when I find that the only wire, that "illuminates brake lights", illuminates "ALL FOUR" rear lights. Now, here's the kicker...After hooking up the following "THREE" wires from the wig-wag,..(Black, Orange, White w/red stripe), ALL FOUR BRAKE LIGHTS, experienced this flash pattern, "SIMULTANEOUSLY"....FIVE quick flashes, FOUR slower flashes, then SOLID ON. Repeats if brake is released and re-applied. The flash pattern is acceptable, since it does accomplishes the original goal of, more safety, but this is one for the books. Any feedback is welcome. Ride safely,..TWOTIMER

I installed about three weeks ago and it was an adventure to say the least. I had a standard back off unit on my 2003 VTX and had no trouble installing on that bike, but increase the number of taillights to four and the wiring gets considerably more difficult. It took me a while to find wires that led to two opposite lights so I ended up going with the first two which happened to be the two bottom lights (Don't ask me which wires I couldn't begin to explain which ones they were). I am glad to see the note below from the Back Off folks about getting better installation instructions and a web site to help. I sure could have used it. I works well installed and is a must have for safety as far as I am concerned, but be prepared for a tough install if you aren't a mechanic, engineer, or electrician.
