Folds forward to ease passenger getting On or Off and adds to safety by getting out of the way in sudden stops. Includes up and down height adjustment, as well as driver seating position, back and forth, to help driver sit upright to avoid slouching--a big factor in driver fatigue. Backrest pivots at top of bar as you lean against it so no uncomfortable edges dig into your back. Well padded, but only 1-1/2 thick which takes up less seating room than most other backrests. All Top Bars are finished in a Beautiful Black Powder Coat. Comes with handy pouch with strap to convert to shoulder bag. Fits all GL1800 Gold Wings.

Very comfortable, high quality seat. BUT.... I DID NOT find this seat easy to install. After many hours of blood, sweat, and TEARS the seat was installed. Our 3,200 mile trip to Florida was easy on my back, and my wife was happy due to the fact there is no bars to interfear with her legs.

I installed this on new '08 GL1800 about two months/2,000 miles ago, and am totally pleased with this unit. I rode that bike less than 500 miles before adding this. It made a huge difference. It does not interfere with wife's knees at all. It has plenty of height and angle adjustment for me, and looks like it came stock.
I installed it myself in a couple hours with no problems other than the same mental block a lot of others have about cutting into a brand new seat. Don't let that concern keep you from purchasing this item. Just use your head and follow the provided instructions...they work. I'm definitely no engineer, and I still had no trouble with the installation. The only knife I had that fit the bill was one of the blades from an electric fish fillet knife, and it worked perfectly. |

Here is Yet another " Thumbs up" for this product. I havent yet been able to put many miles on it yet, But I am sure it'll aid my slightly ageing back.
It does look like original equipment, and it does feel very sturdy. |

I really really like this back rest especially after wasting my money on the Kuryakyn. No problems adjusting and the wife like it too especially since there are no obstruction hitting her legs, (I mentioned the poorly designed Kuryakyn right?) One negative is the mounting hardware that sits on top of the seat can be hazardous to your passengers lower extremities. Maybe Utopia can make a safety pad like a bmx bicycle stem cover. I hope this helps, I strongly recommend it.

Update: just got back from a 6000 km trip through five western US States. Can't tell you how enjoyable this backrest made my back feel. Now I just need to get a custom seat made, as my butt was ready to fall off after six hours of riding - but my back was good. Can't go wrong with an Utopia - worth every penny!
