GL1800 Tires Avon Cobra Radial GL1800 Goldwing Motorcycle Tires
Rating:
I replaced my stock Dunlops at 29000 Km (18000 miles)with the Avon Cobra's and what a difference. I'm running 41 lb front and 42 rear as Avon recommends. Virtually all tar seam tracking has disappeared and I have had no incidence of the rear breaking out when putting the boards down. There is virtually no tire hum and I can hear the engine much more clearly. I used to have a slight wobble at about 180 Km which got progressively worse (yes I know the speed limits, but hey, one has to find out don't they?) and I can now go all the way to 220 Km before it starts. Would I buy them again? In a minute!
GL1500, GL1800 Chrome Cruis Wing Kickstand
Rating:
Show Chrome blew it with this one. It hits my Kury boards and reduces my ground clearance when turning left to the point where I might as well be riding a trike or maybe a 49 Pan. A little shorter than stock but at least 2 1/2 times heavier so no problem with bending which is why I bought it to begin with (I ran into a fellow who had broken 2 stock stands). One man installation is a bit of a bear but it can be done. Today, seeing as how a significant portion of the chrome is now gone due to the dragging, I will "re-adjust" the configuration with my trusty grinder and get back what has been taken away...... As for the "big" foot, oh well I guess it's get a separate pad for the soft stuff. You know, it's a little reminiscent of those universal parts we used to get back in the 60's and 70's. You know the ones that don't fit or work with any known machine in this universe.
GL1800 Tankslapper Body Work Protection Kits
Rating:
I purchased the tank kit only as the side of my tank were showing some evidence of scratching. Product appeared to do the job although installation was prolonged due to air bubble problems. The first time went a car wash the pressure of the water removed them for me. The second time, the water actually damaged one. The third time, they went in the garbage. Nuff said.
GL1800 Stainless Steel 2pc Belly Pan w/Oversize Fasteners
Rating:
Easy install! Took about ten minutes on the center stand. Definitely cover up that vulnerable coolant tank from the possibility of rock damage. Fasteners can be released with a dime if you don't have a stubby screw driver.
10/18/2008

Rating:
Nice piece for the money. Fits snug around the edges of timing cover so alignment is not an issue. 4 stars though as there are no instructions for adhesive strip placement. Twelve point bolt head on screwed shaft cover can be installed with a box wrench in you stock tool kit but a socket would work better.
GL1800 Show Chrome Fog Lights Blue/White or Clear SUPER SALE
Rating:
Do what they say they will do. Installation was straight forward except Honda chose to hide my switch plug and I had to hunt for it. Sneaky little devils hid it inside a boot for another connection. I used the jumper so I can control when the lights are on and not have them go off with the high beams. (Don't want a cage driver to be able to say "I didn't see him") As it happened, I am working nights right now and we had fog that night. I turned my headlights down to the lowest position with the power control switch and used my fog lights. Illumination was wery good and there was considerably less back reflection off the fog which is what causes the blind spots....
GL1800 Gold Wing Accessory Chrome Front Lower Cowl SUPER SALE
Rating:
Nice piece but installation was a bit of a pain. I have a 7" fender extension and this unit has to be tipped out at the bottom to get the upper tabs into place. It hits the extension and you have to finegle it a bit to get it in. Once in place, you have to move from left to right to get the tabs into the rearward position behind the fairing tabs. Before you do all of this, you should remove the bolt up clips from your stock cowl and install them on this unit. I didn't and had to do it twice. Once in (with the clips)the bolt up goes fairly well. NOTE! All the bolt are not the same! The two upper bolts are longer and have a longer shoulder on them. One more nice touch that the manufacturer could have incorporated would have been two hole located in front of the adjuster screws for the fog lights. Then you would not have to remove it to adjust your fog lamps......no instructions, four stars.
Khrome Werks GL1800 Backrest, Armrest or Combo (Both)
Rating:
For sure 5 stars, 6 if I could give it. I am running a Utopia backrest so I only got the armrest portion. Design is good and execution is flawless. All welds are TIG and not MIG which is normaly used by cut rate manufacturers. (TIG good, MIG not so.....) I initialy looked at the ones made by that other fella but the fact that they mounted to a plastic trunk bothered me. It really bothered me when I saw a feshly installed set at a dealers and it had two large yellow stickers, one on each armrest, that essentially said look at me I'm pretty but don't lean on me because I'm fragile. (It reminded me of plastic glove compartment doors with too much in the glove compartment. (Honest, I didn't push it really hard)) Any way, I ordered the Krome Werks units. I was concerned as the pictures shown on Wingstuff give the impression that all clearances are very tight. Not so. There is at least 3/4" under the swivel to the saddlebag and it clears my rear seat heat control by at least 1/4". The bolting supplied is actually a better grade than what the Honda gnomes supplied and hey, you can open the trunk up with the arms in place! I tried putting some weight on them and I figure you would have to exceed 200 pounds before there was any problem. (I weigh 150 and they didn't give an inch) So fellow Wingers, if you want something that works, is designed well, and is well made, I would recommend these in a heartbeat.
GL1800 Accessies Chrome Steel 4pc Scuff Plates
Rating:
Nice chromed steel pieces. You will probably have to massage them gently to get a good fit. Take your time and do it right. Inner unit shouold be as close to the edge of the saddle bag door as possible so that side cover can be easily removed.
Kuryakyn GL1800 Frame Cover w/Rubber
Rating:
Nice to look at versus stock grey intall in about 1/2 hour. One star off due to holes not being perfectly aligned to frame holes. Kuryakyn seems to have a small problem with this. Just take your time and start all bolt before tightening.
GL1800 Chrome Wide Levers w/Dial Adjuster
Rating:
Definitely worth the money. The wide surface area seems to give more control of the clutch and brake and eliminates the "dig" of the stock levers on your fingers. Took about 10 minutes to install. Suggest that you use the time to grease the pins and bushings while installing. Controls now feel btter than new.
Kuryakyn GL1800 Gold Wing Luggage Rack
Rating:
Nice light weight design but fabrication and chroming left a little to be desired. One leg was 1/16" shorter than the rest and there is noticeable chrome discolouration on two legs. (Extensions cover the discolouration fortunately) Recommend you spend the extra and get the 5/8" extensions.otherwise cleaning under it will prove to be a bear. This rack would not have cleared my spoiler without them. Also, if you have the extensions, it is much easier to mark and drill the holes in alignment. I taped the extensions on the legs and set it down on the masked areas where the legs sit. after centering it, I took a pencil and drew around the base of the extension and removed the rack. Using one of the extensions as a drill guide, I drilled through the outer and inner lid for the rear holes and through the outer only for the front. The bit did not wander and the alignment between the inner and outer lid was perfect. I also used two star washers with rubbers on the underside as backups for the bolts. This will help to reinforce the trunk lid against failure.Remember to use the rubbers with adhesive applied to space between the inner and outer lid!
Goldwing Accessories Chrome Universal Key Plate Accent
Rating:
Definitly stops key scratches around the latch. Should be noted that it is steel and not plastic and has to be gently massaged for a good fit.
Deluxe Luggage Rack Bag w/Rain Cover SUPER SALE
Rating:
About 25% larger than the Kury equal (yes, I have it too). Nice piece for the money. It will replace a rucksack when heading off to work in Fort McMurray by sitting on the passenger seat. The velcroe straps tie perfectly to your passenger grabs.
GL1800 Trunk Lid+Saddlebag Lid Organizers 3pc COMBO
Rating:
Nice pieces for the money. Only 4 stars though as only the trunk organizer came with the required screws. I guess I'm off to Home Depot for longer screws......
Kuryakyn Convertible Luggage Rack Bag Black or Blk/Gray
Rating:
Nice bag for the money. Fits the Kury rack perfectly. Definitely like the mounting system. Great for holding rainsuits, chaps etc. leaving trunk open for more important things like clothing....
GL1800 Famous Utopia Driver Backrest IN STOCK
Rating:
In my opinion the best there is. Good design and well made with plenty of adjustment. No annoying bars for the passenger to rub up against. I bought a clone from a competitor and it was absolute crap in comparison and I returned it poste haste. The quality and grade of upolstery material made it look like a rather large bird had visited my seat and left a momento......
Goldwing Cover COMBO Black Full+Grey Half at Low Pricing
Rating:
Definitely a good buy. Does exactly what they should and easy to use. Would buy again in a minute!
GL1800 3pc Deluxe Carpets+3pc Deluxe Liner COMBO
Rating:
Good bang for your buck! Carpets in saddle bags fit was perfect but the trunk leaves a little to be desired. Luggage is well made and ever so convenient. Carpets help to rduce noise from items stored in bags and trunk when traveling rougher roads.
Kuryakyn GL1800 Louver Style Scuff Covers
Rating:
Easy install and well made! Ten miutes and more shine. Makes the old stock units look tacky...
Kuryakyn GL1800 Passenger Boards w/Peg
Rating:
Good design and well executed! For the price though I don't think I should have to strip the detent retains off my stock boards but it is necessary unless you ride with them extended all the time. The detents might add a buck or two to the price. My Lady friends really like the alternate position with the pegs up.
Kuryakyn GL1800 Highwayboard Lighted or Un-Lighted
Rating:
Nice well designed product! Easy install took about 30 minutes. They feel a little awkward to me with the angles they present but a little tweeking should find the sweet spot.
Kuryakyn GL1800 Chrome Footpeg Mounts
Rating:
Nice product, better made than stock. The only problem I had was the "universal" allen head bolts supplied. The reason they were universal was no known wrench in this universe fit them. Ended up using stock bolts....
GL1800 Gold Wing Kuryakyn Driver Floorboards
Rating:
I see a number of people complaining about Kuryakyn's instructions. I can't complain mainly because they didn't supply any at all! In any event, the parts were well made and the design is better than average. Unfortunately, the shifter bound when fully tightened down. The pivot pin was too short and the plastic bushings were binding. In addition, the plastic shifter bushing also bound and needed massaging to get free return on the shifter. When everthing got working I was pleased with the comfort level rise over the stock pegs. 3 stars simply because of the lack of instructions and the finishing left for me to do.....
Kuryakyn GL1800 Chrome Passenger Floorboard Side Covers
Rating:
Holes do not line up properly to existing mounting hole. I suggest you start with the rear hole on the crash guard. Tighten until the sleeve on the bolt engages the hole in the cover. Next, the lower hole at the front. I had to bend the piece gently to get the bolt sleeve to start in the hole. Finish with the upper top hole and tighten all bolts down. 4 stars for poor fit........
