ABS Chrome Trunk Molding
ITEM CODE: BB52611,   SKU: BB52611

I started the screws before I attempted to actually attach the pieces so I wouldn't strip out the plastic and it worked fine.

Looks fine and only time will tell how well they hold up.

ITEM: PG01051

The Good:

They do keep cold air off your hands when it's cold and direct air toward you hands when it's warm.

Directing air toward you hands is also a big plus if you're wearing some type of riding suit or jacket with wind tunnel type sleeves for colling inhot weather.

They do a great job of blowing air up my sleeves in my leather jacket or Aerostich suit.

The Bad:

They keep turning open or closed when gusts of wind or the turbulence from a semi hits them.

I know I'm mechanically inept and can not tighten these correctly, but I tighten them snuggly to the point they are difficult to turn and before the 7 day trip is over the wind gusts are whipping them around again.

This last trip a semi blew the left one closed AND SNAPPED the two bolts in half causing the loss of the entire plastic wing. The nuts did not come loose as I found the nut with half of the bolt still in it laying in a open pocket of my tank bag. I believe this is a safety feature that saves serious damage to the mirror.

Still no reply to m email about warranty replacement.

The Ugly.

None. Looks good and works well except for above noted problems.

A fixed stop attached to the mirror would prevent the wing from opening too far and I can live with them blowing shut.

If they keep breaking off they will be a waste of money. Good idea that doesn't work.

Wig Wag Brake Modulator
ITEM CODE: PU20500031,   SKU: PU20500031

07.08.2008
Great product. Crappy instructions.

The other reviewers are correct. Can they not write a one page set of instructions?

What good is a great product that you can't install?

There are installation instruction on the web for these. Insallation isn't hard, but does require some patience, a volt meter, and a soldering iron.

Perhaps some Wing rider should write directions for them?

XP Rear Brake Modulator
ITEM CODE: PU20500030,   SKU: PU20500030

07.08.2008
Make sure you have the correct version of this modulator if you are mixing LED light and incandescent light bulb.

I've had this for 3 years on my other bike and it works great.

I only installed it on the top brake lights toa GIVI 52 top case because I did not want to alter the factory brake lights.

That may be illegal in some stated, but I was concerned about the unit or my wiring failing and leaving me without brake lights while on a tour.

BTW save yourself my headaches when you install this device. Throw those tap a lite connectors away and solder everything. I installed this thing several times before I finally just soldered the wires in place.

The tap a lites worked fine for a while, but then would fail or become intermittent. It was really aggravating. I had problems on other devices that used these tap a lites too and finally solved those problems with a $3 soldering iron and $1 solder from the local dollar stor.

You've been warned or perhaps it's just me.

Modulator works great. I choose the 5 rapid flash mode and then it stays on until I release and reapply the brakes.

5 stars. For the new Wing I choose the Wig Wag version of this device.

I've seen that from behind a Wing and it seems even more attention getting that this device.

Chrome Radio Knob Set for GL1800
ITEM CODE: BB52709,   SKU: BB52709

07.08.2008
I worked my way through college in a bodyshop so I'm not timid when it comes to pulling knobs or chrome.

I removed the factory knobs and put these on. They were very loose and wobbled. They also came off very easily.

Upon closer inspection I found the factory knobs had little metal clips inside them that held the knob on.

I don't recall ever having to remove these on any other radio knobs I've installed.

Perhaps these are supposed to be moved to the new knobs, but I doubt it.

I put the old knobs back on and will use these to make keyed knobs for the gas tank and right pocket.

Perhaps I should return them or replace them, but it costs more to send them back than they cost.

Factory Honda CB Antenna for GL1800
ITEM CODE: HO08E96MCA100C,   SKU: HO08E96MCA100C

07.08.2008
Installed easily and works fine.

Required trimming 1/2 inch off antenna to achieve 2.5:1 or less VSWR across the 40 channels.

Work fine for short distance communications which is exactly what you should expect from 11 meters.

A very experienced Goldwing rider told me to get the Honda CB. Some of the others were having problems he said.

He's got over 600,000 miles on a wing and works at a dealership.

I took his word on everything Goldwing related nd I've had no problems with my bike.

40 Channel Factory Honda GL1800 CB Radio Kit
ITEM CODE: PG00015

07.08.2008
Good price. Save more by joining the VIP club for $39.

Fully integrated CB for the gl1800.

Pricey, but IMHO it was worth the cost.

Controls are at your fingertips and the audio is fully integrated with all of the wings other functions like radio and intercom.

Installation isn't too bad, but google the web for "gl1800 cb install" to get the skinny on an easier method that doesn't require removal of the trunk. You also do not have to remove the top shelf. You can loosen it and find the connector saving you the trouble of popping all the wires.

Get the Hondaline antenna.

Installation is straight forward.

Setting the SWR require me to trim about 1/2 inch off of the antenna to produce the 2.5:1 or less VSWR across the 40 channels.

Works great for bike to bike communications and nice for traffic info on interstates from truckers.

It's also a little scary to hear the truckers plotting against the cars and motorcycles, but I'm glad I know when I'm in range of a distraught trucker.

My only gripe is the squelch only goes to 20 and it still lets strong signal through. It should stop everything at its top level.

ITEM: BBH50105BK

07.08.2008
Installs easily, but the hooks kept coming loose.

I tried several things to correct this problem and finally just hooked the hooks around the screws tha I'd backed out 1/16 inch.

Then I found it just didn't hld stuff very well so I bought the Hopnel 3 pocket pouch and this now lives in a drawer.

YMMV!

Deluxe Luggage Rack Bag w/Rain Cover
ITEM CODE: WSRACKBAG,   SKU: WSRACKBAG

07.08.2008
It's a plain jane bag, but it's big and for $35, what do you want?

It has a front zippered compartment that houses a tethered rain cover with an elastic bottom to keep it in place.

Attachment is by many pieces of velcro.

I used this bag on a recent 3800 mile tour during which we had a 4 hour ride in 50 mph cross winds.

The cross wind was so strong my luggage bungeed to the back seat was actually moving 5 inches with those gusts.

Any more wind and I'd have had to stop riding, but through it all this bag held tight and the deployed rain cover stayed put.

I really figured it would be a fatality, but I guess that's why it's a "Staff's Pick."

ITEM: BBHDPBK

Well made little pouch.

Has a zipper on the front and a heavy plastic flap covering the zipper.

One warning: All the pictures I've seen of this pouch feature Goldwings with no air vent. When I tried mounting it on the dash I found the air vent was right in the way. I'm 5' 7" so I use the window all the way down and that doesn't leave much room for the pouch.

By attaching it with velcro you have the option of using it in many places other than under the dash.
