Bridgestone Tire COMBO for 2018+ Gold Wing G852/G853
ITEM CODE: WSBRCOMBO18,   SKU: WSBRCOMBO18

I was sold on the Dunlop E4’s because they last so much longer. I replaced my OEM’s with the Dunlop E4 on the first tire replacement. However, I have noticed they just don’t have the wet weather traction that the Bridgestones do. I stopped at a traffic light in light to moderate rain and gently proceeded when it turned green. The rear tire slipped and traction control kicked in. I never had that happen with Bridgestones. That changed my mind. I get 10,000 miles out of the rear Bridgestones and maybe can squeeze 12,000 out of a front. I do not have traction issues in the rain. So, traction or more mileage…. I will take the traction.

Driving Lights for 2018+ Gold Wing
ITEM CODE: RIGW006L,   SKU: RIGW006L

After doing a lot of research, I decided I wanted the Rivco driving lights. I put on 35,000 miles the first year I had my 2018 Honda Goldwing, and one thing I did not like about the headlights was the focused pattern of the lights, at night! Sure, they are great headlights. However, while I don't prefer to ride at night, there was times I had to. When I did and had to lean on a curve, I noticed that the focused light pattern of the headlamps gave me very little visibility on curves at night. If you don't have a 2018+, let me tell you that the focused beam headlamps (while awesome) create a line of light. When you bank into a turn at night, you lose visibility where you need it most. The "line of light" goes into the road about 5 foot ahead of you. I wanted something to aid my night-time driving, and the last thing I wanted was another focused beam light. First off, they are bright to aid in visibility of the motorcycle in daytime driving. But far more importantly, if you have to ride at night in curves, they give you a more spread pattern (more like a floodlight), for curves. That is exactly what I wanted. The install was easy and smooth, and I am no motorcycle mechanic. The price was exceptional for what you are getting. I know some would prefer a more focused beam pattern, but that is not what I wanted. I now have way more confident with the visibility I have on curves at night.

Dunlop Elite 4 Tire COMBO for 2018+ Gold Wing
ITEM CODE: WSDUE4COMBO2018,   SKU: WSDUE4COMBO2018

These are smooth-riding, great grip, and gave me 22K miles. Perhaps I could have gotten another 1,500 miles, but I prefer to be safe. My OEM tires only gave me 11,500 miles.

The product itself gets 5-stars. It is exceptionally easy to install, with one exception... that being Kuryakyn says, "Remove the grommets in the saddlebags." As if that is easy to do without further instructions? It isn't. For those who buy this, in order to remove the grommets in the saddlebags, you have to push them through the top to the bottom. Knowing this bit of information, it isn't a hard installation at all. Otherwise, you might spend a lot of time like me trying to figure out how the heck to get those grommets out. The bottom of the saddlebag grommet has a steel washer, so you can't pull them out from the top. In my case, I had my wife push them through while I put pressure on the saddlebag (pushing outward so the grommet would clear the mounting bracket). Anyone can do this installation relatively quickly, and it looks and works exceptionally well. I just wished Kuryakyn would have included a one-sentence instruction for removing the saddlebag grommets. Beyond that lack of instruction, great product!

Dunlop Elite 4 Tires for GL1800 2001-2018+

I think this is my 4th review (update). It is time to change the front tire. As I said in my previous posts, I installed a set of front/rear Dunlop Elite 4's and Centramatic Wheel Balancers at the same time. After 5,000 miles, I caught a bolt on the highway that took out my rear. But! I am at 22,036 miles ridden on the same front tire. While I do believe the Centramatic Wheel Balancers greatly enhanced the tire life, and likely prevented cupping or any other issues that tires tend to have, getting that many miles on a tire on a GL1800 is a good thing. I will be replacing it tomorrow with another Dunlop Elite 4. You can read my other reviews concerning the ride, handling, etc... but I have zero complaints. Oh, and the rear tire now has 7,000 miles on it and still looks pristine.

Centramatic Stainless Wheel Balancers for GL1800

Well, it is time to change the front tire. I installed new Dunlop Elite 4's at 10,800 miles and had the Centramatic Wheel Balancers installed at that time. What a difference! I caught a bolt on the highway that took out my rear tire at 15,000 miles, and other than the hole in it, it looked great at 5,000 miles! How about the front tire? I have 22,036 miles on it and it is time to replace the front tire - no cupping, no issues, still smooth riding; there's just too little tread in the center to keep riding on it with confidence in wet weather. I get that I am not writing a review of the Dunlop Elite 4's, but I believe the mileage I got out of the front tire - 22,036 - is the result of the Centramatics! With 7,000 miles on the rear tire, it is in superb condition. I understand that the Elite 4 is a longer lasting tire than others, but I am going to attribute the long life of the tire to the Centramatics. That is a lot of miles on a Goldwing for one tire. So, what about the Centramatics? They are just great. There has never been vibration, instability, or other issues. I am a big believer in the Centramatics and wouldn't leave home without them.

20,000 miles on the front tire. As I said in my last review, I hit a bolt on the highway that punctured my rear tire at 15,000 miles on it, so I now have 5,000 miles on the rear and 20,000 miles on the front. I can still go a bit more on the front tire, maybe 25,000? We will see. The front still looks great (no cupping). Based on other reviews, I am wondering if the centramatics that I installed on the front and rear are helping prolong the tire life without any issues. If so, it was money well spent.

With 15,000 miles on the tires...

This is my second update to an original review I did on these tires. My wife and I road two up and we pulled a motorcycle trailer our last two trips, the last being 6,385 miles. The tires continue to perform without any issues. Handling and comfort, as well as wet weather traction are all great.

Unfortunately, on the way home with about 120 miles remaining on our trip, I hit a bolt on the highway and it made a finger sized hole in the rear tire, almost instantly deflating the tire at 80 miles per hour. The bike felt squishy on the rear but I was able to ride about 3/10ths of a mile to a rest area. I put these tires on at 10,800 miles and had the flat at 25,800 miles, exactly 15,000 miles. I am certain I could have ridden another 5,000 miles with the remaining tread on the rear.

As for the front, it still looks very good and I will most likely get another 5,000 miles out of it.

For those wondering, I carry a spare rear wheel for my Goldwing in the back of the motorcycle trailer, so I was able to change out the tire and get home. I had a new Dunlop Elite 4 installed on the back and I hope to get 20,000 miles or more out of it.

I have 6,000 miles on the tires, they still look new and ride great. I love the tires. I would have been close to replacing (or replacing by now) a set of Bridgestones. No complaints.

***

I recently finished a 7,250-mile road trip from Texas to the northwestern states. I had about 9,000 miles on the OEM Bridgestones and had to replace them. I wanted a tire that could give me much better mileage but still provide the comfort the Bridgestones did. After researching these and some convincing input from a local bike repair shop which primarily serves Harley's, I decided to go with these tires.

The one thing I was concerned about was the comfort they would provide. I am a fan of the darkside for the mileage (ran a Bridgestone Driveguard for 30,000 miles on rear), but not for the handling. And though I didn't think I noticed the rougher ride, my wife didn't like the Darkside tire, so what the heck, I went back to OEM Bridgestones.

Well, I say I was concerned because I found all sorts of great things about these tires, but everyone seemed totally silent on the "comfortable ride" part. I couldn't find anything or anyone talking about that. But I did it anyway and put them on (front and rear).

Another potential concern was that in my research, I found riders who complained about this tire wanting to follow tar snakes. A few people complained about the ride on grooved pavement with these tires.

My results? Holy smokes! Far superior to the darkside handling and comfort (I ran 42 PSI due to TPMS), and I would rate them superior in comfort and handling to the Bridgestones. I really, really like them. They are great in rain and really stick to the road. I had absolutely no problem whatsoever with them wanting to follow tar snakes. And as for grooved pavement, they performed much better than the OEM Bridgestones. Will it get the mileage the darkside offers? Of course not, but if I can pull off 15,000 - 20,000 miles, I would consider it a success. As for the wife, she says she will pay for the comfort these tires give her versus the darkside. (I am not against the darkside by the way). Some of my research indicated you can exceed 20,000 miles on the rear tire, and my repair shop that provided the input? He showed me a Dunlop Elite 3 he took off a Harley with 23,000 miles on it with very little wear evident... Yeah, not a Goldwing, but still. The tire looked great. And the Elite 4 was engineered for more mileage than the Elite 3, but with soft rubber for traction on the sides.

Now, two things I offer as a disclaimer. I only have 3,000 on them, but it has been a great 3,000 miles. I am hoping to get some great mileage out of them, but that is a hope at this point. The second disclaimer is that I purchased Centramatics from Wingstuff and had them installed with the brand new Dunlop Elite 4's. How much of the comfort, handling, great ride on tar snakes and grooved pavement is the result of the Centramatics? I don't know. But what a difference the combination makes. I am sold on Centramatics and the Elite 4, for now. Assuming I don't run into issues in the miles ahead, I am sticking with these tires. Also, if I only get 10,000-12,000 miles out of them (unlikely I think), I will still stay with these tires.

Final comment... I am not against the Darkside. I know 42 PSI seems a tad bit high on pressure, and perhaps that was an issue with the rougher ride my wife complained about. The TPMS warned me if I went lower and I am not changing it just because of the darkside tire. As for anyone else's negative experiences with tar snakes and grooved pavement, I believe you had the issues - but I didn't. In fact, with the Centramatics, I rode over tar snakes with zero issue, and some of the grooved pavement was rather severe that I rode over with zero issues.

I had the Centramatics installed on the front and rear with a new set of Dunlop Elite 4's. Wow! Amazing ride now. I will never ride without Centramatics again. (I have 3,000 miles on them now, great riding).
