What's Next? Is Honda Gearing Up for A Big Reveal?

September 14, 2017 - 06:18 PM

A few months ago, buzz about a possible new Honda Goldwing started making the rounds on Social Media and Wing-centric forums like theglforum.com. Questionably photoshopped images abounded, claiming to be the updated 2018 version.

However, there has been no clear, public indication from Honda to suggest something new is coming. Until now.

It’s no secret that Honda keeps things close to the vest. But there have been rumblings of secret viewings and test rides of the new model. What it will be called is anyone’s guess…GL1800 3rd Gen? Earlier this week, Honda started teasing a new announcement to be made at the end of October. A press release was issued, followed up with a 5-video series; the first of which is available to watch now below. What could it be? Some speculate a long rumored electric scooter or hybrid trike NeoWing. Others wonder if it might be a throwback bike. But our money is on the new Wing.

You can check out Honda's press release here.

The first of the five video series is available to watch below and we noticed something interesting that serves to support our belief that the new Goldwing is going to be announced. Give it a watch then continue reading below.

As you watch, notice how the other Honda models in the video are current except for the quick Goldwing shots. From :14-:16 we briefly see a vintage Wing (can you guess the model?) as it passes another Honda bike on the road. Then from 1:05-1:09 we see the same Wing. No current GL model is to be found (the closest thing is the F6B) Why would all the other models in this video be newer models except the Goldwing? Could it be a subtle clue?

What do you think? Let us know by commenting below. We’d love to hear from you!

The vintage wing is easy...GL1000, probably a '76. Hopefully if they do introduce a new wing the top box will be large enough to be useful.....and swallow a couple of xxl full face lids.

Nice video, maybe they are holding back any views of the new Wing because its so radically different. Or
they are trying to rev up some excitement for the same old models. Hard to say.

Vintage Bike appears to be a Valkyrie

I a gree with Greg. The vintage bike is a '75 or '76 Goldwing. I rode one for several years.

I still like my '06 Wing. It has over 110K on it.

Good question as to what Honda is up too. May be they are baiting a different Wing. Would like to see a GL 2200. Might sell mine and get a new one. (:

A six speed transmission is desperately needed. The RPM's are way to high at 65 causing excessive fuel drain.
My vote is for a 2000cc engine upgrade with the 6 speed transmission.
Please try to convince me that sales world wide would not go through the roof!

Hopefully not too little too late. I've waited year after year for Honda to offer something to get excited about but I'm still riding my '04. Last weekend I rode up to Cherokee, NC for factory demo rides of Yamaha's new Venture TC. Everything I've been waiting for Honda to do for the last 10 years. 6 speed, electric windscreen, LED lighting, forward and reverse parking assist, integrated bluetooth. Wake up Honda. You're about to get knocked off your perch.

No matter the year every Goldwing owner I know loves the Wing they own.Guy I know a guy who recently died that logged 175000 + miles on his wing. His Wing was immaculate.

We broke the original "rumors" on TheGLForum.com based upon a second-hand report from someone who claims to have ridden a prototype of the new Goldwing recently. If the rumors are accurate, a new Goldwing and F6B will be released and the changes will be dramatic.

I agree with Charles, a true overdrive 6th gear would be super.... And - Cruisman, it had better be dramatic because the new Venture is certainly going to make some inroads. I have had wings since my '76 (still have it)and have racked up some serious miles on all but 1100's and if it isn't dramatic, the Yammy is lookin' pretty good.

It stinks when you know what it is, but can't share. I ride a Wing, but it only has 77k miles on it. I'll need to wait a couple of years before making the jump. Hopefully demo rides available at next Wing Ding.
