Sunday, June 1, the fourth annual WROAR ride will be up and running, or should I say riding, in Scarborough. The Honda Canada offices on Milner Avenue will be the starting point of this ride, but all makes and styles of bike are welcome. Honda Canada is a sponsor of this ride which is also a fundraiser for the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre. There will be demo rides available aboard the CBR125R starter bike. On Saturday, June 21, the Ride For Sight kicks off in Whitby at Centennial Park. This ride, being the oldest of it's kind in Canada, is also a fundraiser. Proceeds will go to the Canadian Foundation Fighting Blindness.This will be the 30th year for this event, and will be featuring the Ontario Provincial Police Golden Helmets riding team. On Saturday, July 19th, the 15th annual Ride For Literacy will take place. Registration is from 8:00 to 10 a.m. at the Learning Centre for Georgina in Keswick. This time around the ride will be in reverse direction to those in the past. Details are still being worked out, but the ride will still be around Lake Simcoe. All proceeds will go towards benefiting young people who need to hone their reading and writing skills. It costs $40 for each rider and $10 a passenger and you can get more info at http://www.rideforliteracy.com.
Saturday, July 26, the Durham Children's Aid Foundation is hosting its eighth annual ride. This ride will cover some 200 kilometres in and around Rice Lake and will include a couple of fun laps around the Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville. This group of riders represents those who work in the firefighting, emergency medical services and law enforcement fields. Participants are asked to donate something, whether it be a toy or money, but there is no registration fee or minimum toy value for this ride. The ride starts in downtown Toronto at Nathan Phillips Square and will start at 10:30 a.m.. The whole affair will be police-escorted, and It will be followed by a precision riding display by the Toronto Police motor officers riding team.
