Our Trip To Americade 2007 at Lake George, NY.

My wife Julia and I started our early getaway from our working lifestyle on Wednesday afternoon to what we feel is the best rally in the USA, called Americade 2007, held annually each year in Lake George, NY. We arrived at the campground at about 7:00 PM driving from here in New Jersey, just enough time to setup, relax and enjoy some good home cooking. Julia's mom gave us some Lasagna which was quickly dispatched after our arrival. We have been coming to Lake George for quite a few years and always make Lake George RV Park our home base. Even though the campground has 4 pools with one being enclosed, 10 tennis courts, 3 movie houses and a stadium theater, we never seem to have enough time to enjoy them.

Our friends Gilbert & Dee had been at the campground since Monday and stopped by in the evening to say hello and to plan our excursions for the following day. We gave our other friends Stanley & George a call to see if they wanted to join us but they were going to be at the vendors for most of the day. Stanley needed to spend some money on his new 2007 Honda Goldwing motorcycle. I just happen to have a route planned that took us north into Thurman followed by some awesome back roads with the ever popular twisties.

Later in the town of Wells we stopped for lunch in a large colonial house with a Dinner sign outside. The food was tasty, fresh and cheap, you can't beat that combination. After lunch our Honda Goldwing group made their way to Great Sacandaga Lake, where the best part of the ride waited patiently for us. The scenery around the lake was spectacular and one horseshoe turn not only scrapped the pegs but took your breath away. At our stop on the mountain overlook Gilbert told me that he definitely got the butterflies around that turn and it was the only time he saw my brake light come on. He was right.

Later that day Julia & I headed over to the Painted Pony for a Cowboy Barbecue Dinner and front row seats to the Rodeo. Let me tell you the food kept on coming and the action at the Rodeo never stopped. I give those Cowboys a lot of credit, there isn't enough Ben Gay to get me on one of those bucking broncos. Even seeing those guys trying to lasso a calf while riding on the back of a motorcycle did not convince me. The Honda Goldwing is definitely more my style, smooth, quick and nimble. After the Rodeo we stooped by the Roaring Brook Ranch to check out the Light Parade. Wow, what a busy day and its only Thursday.

Next day we were up bright and early at the Americade rally on our way to the Basin Harbor Tour. The Goldwing motorcycles lined up in front of Fort William Henry next to Million Dollar Beach. Because close to 100 Goldwing riders signed up for the tour, the run was split into two groups. Our group took the route along the east side of Lake George and worked their way up to Ticonderoga via Route 4 and Route 22. There we had a rest stop with a chance to get some coffee and to stretch out our legs. Soon enough the group was back on the road past Crown Point State Park's bridge over Lake Champlain. Route 17 took us along the Vermont side of Lake Champlain on our way to our lunch destination at the Basin Harbor Club. There a delicious buffet lunch in a country club setting gave our Goldwing Americade Tour group an appreciated welcome.

The service provided was first class with a touch of 18th Century charm. From there some people continued on to the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, others took the Saranac Lake Route while my wife Julia & I decided to break off and follow Route 9N by the western side of Lake George past Boltona's Landing and Diamond Point. This gave us a little time to check out the vendors at Million Dollar Beach while preparing to meet up with our other friends Carlos & Rose for the evening. Getting together with friends from Chapter H really added to the enjoyment of Americade this year.

Together we made our way to a lake front restaurant on Glen Lake that avoided the crunch from all the rally attendees. After dinner a stop by our home base to enjoy ice cream and great conversation was followed by a night ride to downtown Lake George. Wow, what a spectacle of Goldwing lights seen downtown with wall to wall Honda Goldwing motorcycles parked along the main drag with just as many bikes cruising the boulevard. You will see just about any type of motorcycle you can possibly think of. After saying goodbye to our friends we made our way back to the campground to get a much needed rest. What an awesome day and its only Friday.

On Saturday we met up with our other Goldwing friends Joe & Lynne for a ride up to Warrensburg on our way to the vendors at Million Dollar Beach. This was not only their first Goldwing Americade Rally, but also their first stay with us at our motorhome. The amount of Goldwings on the road created so much bike traffic, that the amount of Goldwings had easily doubled from yesterday with the back roads being the only possible way to get around. Before you knew it we found ourselves enjoying some good Italian food at Frank's Pizzeria. It was then time to head back to home base for a good glass of wine with cheese & crackers followed by a cozy campfire & marshmallows.

Sunday morning Joe rolled out of bed at around 8:00 AM noting that usually he is out of bed by 5:00 AM, a typical camping night. Julia was busy preparing a delicious pancake breakfast that both Joe and I fully enjoyed. Well, reality must return at some point to pay for all this fun time, so while we got ready for our trip home, Joe & Lynne headed out East to follow the Hudson River down to Mechanicsville.

Thanks to all our friends, Americade 2007 has been the most enjoyable rally we ever attended. Americade is held each year annually in Lake George, New York.

We have included some of our favorite pictures described in our story submission for all our Wingstuff.com fellow members to enjoy.. We also enjoy talking to many of you here on this website thru Wingstuff's online contact a member system. We hope we can also get to meet some of you at next years Americade Rally in 2008.

Hi Jorge & Julia,

After reading your blog about your trip to Americade, it brought back fond memories. I made the trip back in '91. I'm sure Americade participation has at least doubled, since then.
There were about 15,000 participants when I went, if I recall.

Congrats on becoming NJ's Couple of Year for 2008.
